Arriving at DME after 10 p.m. question...

We are coming in on a Delta flight from Detroit and arriving at about 9 p.m. By the time we make our way down to the DME area, it will be about 9:30 or so. We are going to POR. Disney stops delivering luggage to resorts at 10 p.m. Right? We are cutting it close.

Should we even bother tagging our luggage in Detroit or just not tag it and claim it at the luggage carousel in MCO? Or should we tag it and hope it gets delivered before the 10 p.m. deadline?

What happens if there is a flight arrival delay due to weather up North? We are flying in February. So we get to MCO a few hours late, after 10 p.m., and our luggage has been yellow tagged from Detroit, what happens to the luggage?

Pay it safe and get your own luggage.

We do it everything. I want to say it takes no more then 15 min.

I always collect my baggage before boarding DME, saves wondering what time the luggage will arrive and you probably won't get to your hotel until 11ish, depending what other hotels are included in the drop off.
Collecting your own luggage may add a half hour.

I love not having to worry about getting my bags and lugging them to the resort, BUT...if I arrive into MCO at any time after 7pm, I won't tag my bags. I get them myself at baggage claim and then take them with me to the DME bus. I just don't want to be waiting around for hours on end for my bags to get to my room. I want to get settled and then a good night's sleep.
If I were you I would leave the bags untagged and get them at baggage claim. You will be adding only about 15-20 mins to your overall time, and it will allow you to get settled in for the night.

What, pray, happens if there is a flight arrival delay due to ... we get to MCO a few hours late, after 10 p.m., and our luggage has been yellow tagged from ..., what happens to the luggage?
It all (yellow tagged or not) goes to the carousels.

Barring more intricate and precise instructions published well in advance, if your plane pulls* up to the gate after 10 PM, you need to go to the carousels to claim your luggage.

File a baggage claim if you don't find your luggage, before leaving the area for the Magical Express welcoming area.

* The same rule should apply to everyone on that plane, regardless of when they step off the threshold onto the ramp.

As long as your flight arrives prior to 10pm, they will deliver your bags to you. Put the tags on and enjoy skipping that part of the process of flying.

I agree with this. Why stop at the airport to get your bags (thus spending even more time in the airport) if you don't have to? Let DME handle your bags for you. Pack what you need for the first 24 hours in your carry-on (which you should always do anyway) and let DME handle the rest.

Just to clarify: DME stops nabbing bags at the airport at 10 pm. They keep delivering them after that. The value resorts stop bringing them to your room at Midnight, but the moderate and deluxe resorts deliver them 24/7.

If you don't want your bags brought to your room that late at night, just tell the front desk to hold them. They will! Then call down when you want them the next day. Easy as pie.

Bolding is mine....

Can only speak for POP Century But they WILL deliver your luggage after midnight if you request it! Have had it happen....just last Nov. And that wasn't the first time either. Don't know about the other values as I haven't done a late check in at them in years.....

If I had a flight slated to to land at 9 I would take advantage of baggage delivery. We are on pacific time and will be up anyway for delivery.

Sounds like they have a process in place for a flight that ends up being late so in that case I'd go get the bags.

The only time so far we've taken DME we landed after midnight so I know what a pain it is to deal with bags and the bus, and I really look forward to not dealing with them on our next trip!

We are getting in after 10pm Florida time. We are hiring a town car just for this reason. We figure if we can't take advantage of the luggage delivery, we will go for the personal service. The driver will help with getting our bags to the car, they've agreed to stop for food somewhere and we will only have to stop at our resort and not any others first.

We frequently fly through Detroit to Orlando and, in winter, there is a strong possibility that your flight may be delayed by weather. Detroit does a pretty darn good job of clearing runways, but you're right to be prepared. If I can let DME take my checked bags, I will. I always make sure to have everything I need for at least the next 24 hours in my checked bag (medications, nightclothes, clothing for the next day, and the all important swimsuit). Your airline could misdirect your checked bags regardless of what DME does.

Also, when we've arrived late, but before 10:00, I have had good success with asking the resort to hold my checked bags for a delivery in the morning. They say that the bags will be delivered up to 3 hours after you check in (not after you land). So, it could be 2:00 in the morning that is 3 hours after your 11:00 check in. The typical response I get to a request to hold the checked bags is "sure, what time do you want them delivered" (Pop, CBR, and CSR) or "sure, just call in the morning when you want them."
