I'm looking for info from anyone that has arrived at MCO around 5:30 and used DME. How long did it take for you to get to your resort, once your plane landed? I'm trying to decide whether to take DME or rent a car for that one day, as I want to get checked in and off to the F&WF as soon as I can.

The average time between landing and being dropped off at trhe resort via DME is 70 minutes.

No matter how you go, the on-the-road time between MCO and most resorts is 30 minutes. So that leaves 40 minutes "in play" to help you decide between DME and renting a car.

If you rent a car, you have to walk from the plane to baggage claim (5 minutes?), then wait at baggage claim and then get your bags (10 minutes?), bring them to the rental car counter, wait in line at the rental counter (5 minutes?), then do the transaction (5 minutes?), then get to the car, etc. (5 minutes?). In my little guess-timation scenario, the car rental MIGHT save you 5 minutes. MAYBE. A longer line at the counter, a longer wait to get to your car, and it's even. But let's say you do save 10 minutes ... you have to decide if the 10 minutes is worth the $50 or whatever the one-day rental will cost you. You may decide that it is worth it.

To me, the only way it would be worth it to me is if I planned to drive the rental car DIRECTLY to the F&WF from MCO rather than stopping first at your resort. If you did THAT, then THAT would save you gobs of time (assuming driving to the resort and driving to F&WF would be about the same time, you'd save waiting in line to check-in, going to your room to drop-off your luggage, getting back to the car, driving to the park, etc.), and to me THAT might be worth the extra expense of the rental.

But if you're going to your resort first, DME should get you there in around the same time as a rental car would.

Thanks Eric for your perspective. The only wait I would need to do at the airport is baggage, and then right out to the Emerald Club aisle to pick up the car, bypassing the counter. We are staying at BWV, so we would drive straight to there, check in and walk over to WS. I had just heard horror stories of DME people who have arrived later in the day, so I thought I would ask for some firsthand experience. I didn't know the average time of DME, so thanks for that.
