Arrived in Florida but just had a horrible experience!!

Arrived in Florida last night and had a lovely day in Epcot :thumbsup2

This is our 16 trip and we always stay in a Villa as offsite works better for us. We use the same website to choose our Villa and have never had any problems with villas, owners or managment companies

How that changed tonight!!!!

My DH came out of the house this evening as we were off out and locked the door - the key snapped in the lock and we were locked out :confused3 We managed to get the broken key out of the door so all we needed was a second key to get back in ( we only had one key)

My DH called the management company - a very rude woman answered and we were told nothing could be done till morning !!!! It was then decided that someone would come down and leave a new key in the key box!!

10 minutes later a man called and I answered - shouting at me telling me I would pay $65 for a key before 9pm or $120 after. I explained all we needed was another key - this went on and on, he swore at me as I tried to put my point across and then he hung up on me !

He then left a message on my voicemail telling me that he had us over a barrel - he had the key and he didnt have to let us in!!!!

DH then rang him - he swore at him but eventually agreed to come to the house in his time - we were all sitting in the dark in the rental car for an hour with a little boy needing the toilet and the other really upset as I was upset .

When he turned up we had decided we would pay whatever as we were very intimidated, get a receipt and take it up with the owner. He came - was very obnoxious and when DH asked for a receipt he stomped to his van and drove off with the key !!!!!

We sat for another 20 minutes when he appeared back again and gave us a key and receipt - a horrible horrible man

What kind of person could treat kids like that ????

I feel awful but need to shake it off and get back to vacation mode

I know that rental contracts hold you responsible for lockouts and often charge exorbitant fees, but the attitude of the person who responded is ridiculous.

Usually those fees are the result of having to bring in a locksmith, but it sounds like this guy wasn't a locksmith, he was just a guy holding the extra key.

I hope you are able to get a good night's sleep and enjoy the rest of your vacation.

Venting helps.
 
I understand charging a fee to bring another key out, but to speak to you guys like that is awful. I would tell the rental company what happened first thing in the morning. I hope you enjoy the rest of your vacation.
 

I have to say, I don't even understand them charging you for bringing another key out when theirs broke. If you misplaced it or locked yourself out, I could see for that, but this clearly wasn't your fault.

I can't believe they treated you like that!!! I'm so frustrated for you!

I agree. The key breaking in the lock wasn't your fault and shouldn't be considered a lock-out event.

I hope this is the only bump in your trip. :hug:
 
Oh Jackie, so sorry to hear this has happened. There was no need for the rudeness and distress it has caused you, I do hope your littles ones are ok :hug:

Try not to let it affect the rest of your holiday (I know it will be hard) I hope you have a great day at the parks or whatever you do today :grouphug:

Jackie, that is terrible. I hope you let the owner know this. I hope the rest of your vacation is much better than the start.
 
Hope you are able to get a suitable resolution from the rental company. This is just plain unbelievable. To have done nothing wrong and be treated like that is disgusting.
Hope the rest of the holiday is fantastic - you deserve something extra special to come your way after having to deal with that!
 
I am so sorry that you had to deal with it. Like others said please make sure that you let the owner and rental company know of your treatment.

Don't let this jerk spoil you vacation, but I would be calling and asking to speak to the owner about this man and how you were treated.
 
Jackie & Brian, I hope the rest of your vacation is magical and this is the only bump the whole time. Contact the owner when you have calmed down and explain the situation calmly.

Maybe people renting should take their keys and have copies made so as to avoid those fees? And avoid jerks like guy who was a jerk.

Jackie, so sorry to hear this. What a jerk. If you haven't deleted the voicemail yet, you might want to keep it to replay for the owner to hear.
