Arrive Tomorrow, Just Got Bad News, Advice Needed

Go and enjoy and let all the problems disappear as the Disney magic takes over.
DH was laid off once right before we left......we went, had a good time and dealt with it when we got back.

Since you didn’t tell your spouse, I’m figuring you didn’t lose your job? If that’s correct, whatever it is will likely be there to deal with when you get back. The trip is here now. You’re not double digit dancing or single digit dancing. The countdown is over. Go home, just mention the trip and let the memories begin.

In the event there is an impending lay-off first I would hope there would be a severance. But your trip is probably for the most part paid for by now since it is tomorrow and not a few months from now. Enjoy your family. Those times we are away and all I have to be is mom and nothing else. Priceless.

For some reason Splash Mountain does it for me - reminds me that we all have briar patches in our lives, but it all works out in the end.
So my advice? Head directly to Splash and keep riding it until the angst/stress is gone :)

I know most of us have special Disney triggers that tell us "I'm really here". One of mine is walking in to Spaceship Earth, with the smell, sounds and rush of air. When you start to stress, close your eyes, breathe and think of that magic place.

I wish I could follow up bad news with a Disney trip! ;) Go and have fun, your family loves you, and work will just have to wait.

I'm so sorry to hear you've had last minute stress at work which is playing on your mind.

When I get into this situation I try to think to myself...

"is there anything I can do about this right now?" usually the answer is no.

"even though something has gone wrong whats the worse that's really going to happen?" usually the answer is something will be delayed or take a bit more time.

"what is true right now?" in you're case you're going on holiday and that's something you're really been looking forward to.

So try to put it to the back of your head. Whatever it is can be sorted when you're back.

I hope you have the best time.

This is one of many awesome replies in this thread. I'll just add, that when you get to WDW, these problems will be far, far away. Your biggest issue will be squeezing-in one more attraction before your ADR. When you return home you'll have a better perspective on things. WDW = powerful mojo for what ails you.:earsboy:

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought the briar patch represented home. :)

I would tell myself nothing in this world , is in front of my love for my family. Nothing in this world can replace that love and the your family love for you. When everybody else are against you.You know who won't be, your family will support and love you no matter what. I was T&D maker for 30 years I can't remember how many 2 or 3 week projects I made a mistake near end of project. Plant mgr. , foreman , other employees who i had worked with for 20 years , did they come to my defence or other work on CNC machines they couldn't even know how to program. I was so stressed out.I would go to bathroom and puke. Then I went home and my wife would know I had bad day and son too. They would smile give a hug and kiss and say we're proud of you Dad and we love you.Stress would melt away I learned that my family was more important than anything on God's green earth than that love. Money, cars, houses jobs, come and go Family love and support does't. Go to WDW and have magical time and what happens at work happens. You have loving family you'er rich beyond measure.

Good advice! At the end of the day as long as you have health and your family, everything else is just a means to an end. To me, that is what work is. I work so that one day I can quit working and thoroughly enjoy life! If this job comes to an end, I will find another. In 20 years you will still remember this vacation but will probably not remember whatever is stressing you out right now.

I'm old enough to have seen the movie a few times, and it does. Rabbit moved into the briar patch for safety from Fox.
Nope - I dashed the reply off at lunch while multitasking during a rough day at work - you're correct.
I remember going to DL years ago fearing I would lose my job and that riding Splash helped me let all that worry go - as it turns out all that worry was a waste as I still work there, altho' after days like today I almost wish I didn't!

Sorry I wasn't trying to be a know it all. I just wanted to make sure I was understanding the story of Brer Rabbit correctly. :)
