Arrive Tomorrow, Just Got Bad News, Advice Needed

Can you say more about the bad news? Really depends. But if your vacation is still a go, I reckon you at least have that piece of fun to look forward to before going back to the real world.

Agree. It's hard to give much advice without having some idea of what the news is. If it's "You've got 2 weeks and then you're out" then it would be very difficult to put that out of one's mind, especially if finances are currently tight.

I had things happen on two vacations before. The first one I found out that layoffs were happening while I was on vacation and would not known until I got back if I was on the list. The other time I found I was going to lose my job in two months, so I extended my vacation! This was my fault for checking into work while I was on vacation because it really did out a sampler on both trips. I hope things work out for you. Perhaps telling your SO would be helpful if it is a major thing.

I'm so sorry to hear you've had last minute stress at work which is playing on your mind.

When I get into this situation I try to think to myself...

"is there anything I can do about this right now?" usually the answer is no.

"even though something has gone wrong whats the worse that's really going to happen?" usually the answer is something will be delayed or take a bit more time.

"what is true right now?" in you're case you're going on holiday and that's something you're really been looking forward to.

So try to put it to the back of your head. Whatever it is can be sorted when you're back.

I hope you have the best time.

Without knowing the news it is hard to give advice (not asking for more info) but depending on the situation doing something to feel like you are in more control of it may help.
A little like if you are having trouble sleeping because of something you are worried about you write down a list of what you need to do then leave it until the morning.
So make a meeting with your boss, write a to do list, send an email, contact a recruitment company whatever may help you feel like you are back in control

My husbands work is very stressful in general and the things go on drive my husband crazy.

Normally if I know something is really bugging him I tell him to knock it off and to not come around anyone till he is ready and normally just leave him alone. Maybe separating yourself from the family for an hour or two weather it be in your room or going to a park and just sitting might help.

Unless you are losing your job, to me it really shouldn't matter what the bad news is.
This is about family....family trumps work any day!!

It's just a job, family is forever

I'm excited for your trip and if your job is possibly being affected, I will say this....it could be the beginning of a huge blessing in your life. Worry doesn't change anything. All it does is release chemicals in our brains and stress out our adrenals. Practice thinking good thoughts. It's like training our muscles. Tell yourself, 'I am starting out a new journey in life by taking my first steps in the most magical place on earth!"
It's going to put you in a great frame of mind to be in the place where one thought...ONE THOUGHT of drawing a cartoon of a MOUSE! turned into an entire universe of HAPPY for millions of men, women and children all over the world! THAT, my dear, is what a thought can do! For the good or the better! Choose the better!

If your employment is up for change, rejoice! You will indeed be better for it! I am a woman of faith and I have seen dreams come true in ways people never even imagined. Instead of seeing the bad, I will stand with you and say, there WILL be something amazing coming your way and this one step, which looks bad and scary, is actually being presented to you wrapped in walt disney dreams to INSPIRE you of the possibilities that await you!

I highly encourage you to go to One Man's Dream and let it soak into your soul. You are going to be fine. You are going to be Better Than Fine! Enjoy this trip! You are facing a new day but new days can be much, much better than the old day! Bless you and have a great relaxing time and keep us updated!

Let it go, let it go. Never were words more meaningful than right now for your situation. A loss of a job or a major demotion, if that is what it is, is a horrible thing to go through. I have experienced that myself. But I realized that all of the anguish in the world on my part will not make a change, it will only make it worse. Take a deep breath. Tell yourself that you are alive and healthy, your family is and will always be the most important part of your life. Financially, things may be rough for a little while, you can always get another job but your family is the one and only constant that keeps you grounded and in my lifetime experience my family is the only part of my life that brings me true joy and happiness. You are about to experience Walt Disney World, truly a family experience that can only bring joy and treasured memories. Open your heart to embrace this time with your loved ones and shut out the rest of your life until it is time to once again face it. My secret to truly enjoying my time at WDW is to leave any and all communication devices at home. No cell, no IPad, no laptop, nothing. There is no temptation to check up on my emails, or spending just a few minutes completing a project at poolside. We call our children (we are in our 60's so we travel sans children) when we arrive and they have our room number if something comes up. This is you time. Look into the eyes of your loved ones when they experience a magical moment and you will understand what it is I am trying to say. May God bless you and bring you comfort and I will pray for you.

As others have posted, hopefully once you are there you will be immersed in your family and vacation and the troubling
news will be put aside. I wish you a happy fun filled vacation!

Watch some fun Disney vacation videos on Youtube. That always puts me in a good mood!

I also find that if I dwell on something, it drags me down. If I try hard to put it out of my mind, it really does help to keep it out of my mind and frees me.

Hope you have a magical trip!

Just remember this!

Several ago, about a month before our trip I found out that the place I had worked at for years was shutting the doors. I immediately panicked and thought about cancelling our trip. I mean how on earth could I think of going on a trip and spend all that money knowing that I was going to be out a job. Also I thought about my many co-workers who had been working there for 20+ years, what would they do. It was very stressful.

We said our prayers that it would be ok and we went anyway. How could I NOT go? I needed that trip more than ever so that when I returned I could focus more on what had to be done. Very glad I went.

Go and enjoy--it will be ok.

I'm sorry that happened for you. I've always found that distraction is the best technique to get my mind off of something troublesome. If I'm going and doing, it's easier for me to put whatever the bother may be aside. I can't think of any better distraction than a WDW vacation! :yay:I hope once you get down there, your mind calms and you're able to enjoy your trip with your family! Have a great trip!

I typically get bad news on the trip instead of before (father in the hospital awaiting emergency heart surgery, check. Finding out I got passed over for a promotion, check check. Getting a call that the FDA was coming in for a full audit the Monday morning I returned from vacation? Super check). The only one that I ever worried about was my dad. The work stuff, well, it's just work. Deep breath, shake it off. Sometimes I would think through and try to have a back up plan in mind In times of uncertainty, which really relaxed me, but nothing was worth dwelling on over vacation except the health of my dad. And even then, thankfully it turned out fine. But if it's out of your hands, worrying won't change it.

I'm so sorry about your bad news. Trust in Disney Magic - It has a way of seeping into your soul and pushing everything else out.
Surrender to the magic, and you will have a wonderful time! A trip to Disney has helped me overcome many awful things in life. Often it is the ONLY thing that actually helps.
A trip to Disney can remind you that joy does exist, even when you are convinced there is no such thing.
Hope you have a fantastically magical trip!

Hopefully it isn't job threatening news. Short of that just relax and have a great trip. You will be surprised how often you will not be thinking about work.

Life is too short to not enjoy a Disney trip.... work stays at work, the second you get on that plane you are property of Mickey Mouse..... not your boss. HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!

I don't know your specific news, but I have faced this exact dilemma a few times before vacations in my life. I have a very demanding and stressful career - comes with the territory.

I agree with those who have said to just put your family first and try to live in the moment. You will still stress when you are alone or have quiet time, so try not to allow yourself to be alone during the vacation. Your family is worth the effort, and so are you.

If there is nothing you can do about it while you are gone, then stressing and worrying doesn't matter so leave it at work.
I am a chronic worrier. I lose sleep over some minor problems. Something I have learned is a good nights sleep or two puts everything back into perspective and I find I deal with it MUCH better. I'm hoping by the time you see this, time has taken the edge off and the Magic of Disney has taken it's affect. Good luck and enjoy. Que Sera, Sera. What ever will be, will be!
