Arrival prior to ABD and hotel?

In anticipation that we are able to go on our Rome short escape prior to our DCL cruise next June to Greece, we decided that it may be better to fly in early rather than the morning we start our escape. Will ABD be able to make the reservation to stay in (same) hotel for night before our short escape begins or do I have to do it independently? This will be our first ABD so I am unsure of many things. Thank you

I highly recommend that you *do* arrive at least the day before your trip starts. Give yourself time for flight issues and jetlag. Why do that to yourself? Anyways, in general, the answer is yes, they can arrange pre-nights for you at the same hotel as the ABD. Every once in a while, they aren't able to arrange it (capacity limits at the hotels for group bookings, etc) so you'll need to check with ABD to be sure. Your transfer is still included, plus, generally, breakfast for that extra morning. It's usually pretty pricey, but most times it's worth it for the convenience.

We have been on a couple of ABD, and we have always arrived a day early. I highly recommend this...it makes it less hectic when getting kids ready for starting the adventure. In our case, we arranged to arrive the night before at the tour hotel, and ABD was very helpful and arranged the transportation from the airport to the hotel for us. The vactionistas are great to work with!

We have terrible luck with overseas flights being delayed or canceled, including arriving almost 24 hours after we were supposed to. I also jet lag hard, and would rather spend that first day a zombie that can take a nap whenever I want without worrying about how I'm not enjoying the vacation I paid for.

I'm sure ABD would be happy to arrange a room and transfer the day prior. It would probably be (significantly?) cheaper to DIY. Sometimes we stay at the hotel the official trip will be staying at, sometimes close by. Arranging pick up and transfer is usually very easy thru the hotel. Either way, I don't think you can go wrong arriving a day early.

We always plan on flying in at least a day early. For our favorite cities (Rome & Venice) we plan on two days. One trip we made an exception and almost missed the ship because of flight issues.
