T-Rex or Rain Forest are a fun way to start out a trip but in my opinion the best way to kick off a vacation with kids is Chef Mickey. Well worth the $$ . You get the best feeling here.

I like the idea of counter service at a resort other than the one you're staying at. Mara at AKL is a great idea. Then, you can go out and use the night vision binoculars to see the animals (assuming they are still doing this). Another idea might be the counter service place at the Contemporary. It's fun to see the monorail running through the building and Contemporary has the best arcade on site (although perhaps you want to avoid the arcade!).

The Boardwalk is also good idea. If you can't get into Beaches and Cream or the wait is too long, try The Fountain at the Dolphin for burgers and ice cream.
