Can I walk into a DVC resort and get a room if available? If not, what is the latest you can call to make a reservation, …depending on availability?

I don't believe that you can do a "walk-in" reservation anywhere at WDW. I think all DVC reservations have to go through MS and regular resort rooms through CRO :confused3 I could be wrong

I couldn't even imagine going to WDW without a reservation booked :scared1:

We tied two years ago in late August, not the busiest time of year, at a couple of their value resorts, but where not able to get a room. We were able to get a hotel just off Disney.

If you walk up, you won't be able to get a points reservation. You have to call MS to make it and then check in.

Didn't someone call from the airport and make a reservation, and the resort managed to use points? Maybe Carol?

We called the front desk at OKW on a Saturday before MS was open on Saturdays while staying at an offsite motel a mile away and were able to get a room on points. It was the day before a hurricane was to hit and our original reservation started on the Sunday. We took the loss on the offsite reservation and used a lot of points to be sure of being at Disney before the storn arrived because the previous storm had seen many roads closed and we did not want to take a chance of not being able to get there. Now that MS is open 7 days a week I would think you would have to call them first unless it was during a time they are closed. Getting a room would of course depend on whether they have any available and I would think getting a one night reservation would be the most likely.

I have called the night before and reserved a room on points. We were already at the resort and needed just a couple of more days of vacation. They did have availability, but we did have to move resorts. I beleive it was about the 2nd or third week of June.

I know I was able. Our airport (Montreal) was snowed in and our flight was cancelled and rescheduled to leave 4 days later  . I called MS from the airport and was able to get a 2bdrm from March 9-13, 2008, I was back on DME and sitting by SSR pool with a drink in hand within 2 hours :thumbsup2 . That was our first use of our new DVC membership.

We had planned to head to Orange Beach, AL after a short stay at SSR. Tropical Storm A... was heading right for Orange Beach the night before we were supposed to check out. We called the OKW desk to see if they had anything available. They told us to call MS as soon as they opened in the morning. We called at 9AM and at 11:00AM we were checking into BCV for three more nights.

The resorts DO have the capacity to make the reservations on points when MS is not open, but I think this is discouraged and only used in emergency type situations. In our case, we were able to call the resort directly and get a reservation to check in that same morning (about 20 minutes later) on points. It was Labor Day (so MS would not be open), during a hurricane, and we were stuck in WDW due to some problems with a DCL cruise not going out and then changing ports. The desk said that they did have a way to do the reservation on points, but would have to find the manual and go through it step by step while we were on the phone. So, day of reservations CAN be made, but are best made through MS. In an emergency or an extreme situation, the resorts CAN handle walk up or phone business but I think would prefer not to do so except in such circumstances.
