Armed Forces Ticket Promo Question

Our family is planning a trip and using our limit of 6 Armed Forces Tickets from the promotion. My husband's brother is also military. His daughter would like to go, but due to various conflicts her Mom and Dad cannot. We are planning to take her with us. Her Dad is planning on getting the voucher for her ticket at the base - but my concern is - will Disney allow us to activate it at the park without her Dad there based on her Uncle's military id? I wasn't sure if Disney would track/care as long as we had the voucher. Worse case we'll just pay the normal price for her ticket, but I'm hoping someone else had this come up. Thanks

Do you have an ID as a spouse? If so you will be able to activate the voucher. They do not link them to anything. It's also possible they will just activate all of them together. There is an exception to the 6 limit for larger families. Have a great trip.

So my family (non-military) is going with my sister (military) and our group together is 7 people.

Can my sister get 6 passes with her ID and her husband get 6 passes with his ID?

The limit of six AFS tickets is per military family. Either the military member or spouse (or widow) may activate their family's allotment of tickets for family and friends. In the case of the OP, the 7th ticket cannot be activated because of two scenarios:
1) It is the 7th ticket of one military family.
2) Referencing the brother who is also a qualified military person, he (or spouse) will not be there in person to activate the ticket. No dependent other than the military member or spouse (or widow) can activate these tickets.

When the AFS tickets are activated, the Disney CM will ask for proper military ID, plus the name, address, phone and dob for each person being issued one of the tickets. In that way, the tickets are tied to a specific military member.

I work for a base travel office, and I can verify that all of the above is 100% correct.

The max allotment per Sponsor is 6 tickets. Even in case of a Spouse, the CMs will look at the Sponsor's name and apply the tickets to his/her allotment. The only way that a Spouse can activate their own allotment of up to 6 is if he/she is also an Active or Retired service member.

In order to activate the tickets, the Sponsor or Spouse must be present. Child Dependents cannot activate these tickets. So your niece would not be able to activate a ticket from her father's allotment.

For the 7th ticket needed, I would advise that your brother-in-law should check with his base ticket office about purchasing a regular 4-day hopper. Most ITT/LTS offices can still sell regular WDW tickets, but at a slightly lower price than you would pay at the gate. In my office, we currently sell the 4-Day Hopper for A-$331/C-$312, but at the gate with tax they are A-$377/C-$356.

Hope this helps! ;)

I didn't get into greater detail in my post because it wasn't relevant to OP's question, but I think what you're saying about spouse activation of AFS tickets is, the spouse can only activate 5 of the 6 tickets, leaving one available for the sponsor, unless the spouse is also a qualified military member. Still, if both husband and wife are qualified in their own right for AFS tickets, they are considered a family in terms of this promotion, and are limited to 6 tickets.

Incorrect. The Spouse can activate up to all 6 tickets, including his/her own. Often times the Sponsor is deployed, and unable to join the party. This program does not punish families for that.

Also Incorrect. These tickets are allotted per service member. Not per family. If husband and wife are each Active/Retired military service members, they are each entitled to an allotment of 6 tickets. :goodvibes

Thanks for your quick answers. I had those things wrong. Possibly the rules of the program evolved over the years and I was recalling old info. Our Disboards ticket guru had posted in the past about the "5 tickets for spouse activation" rule. The 2 military member family rule was something I thought I had remembered from previous posters here; however, I must have remembered incorrectly. Thank you for your time and for the correct, up-to-date info.

It's my pleasure! I've sold these tickets for the last three years, so I know what you mean about how much things can change. I also explain how these work multiple times every day in the office... It's almost like a script in my head at this point!! :lmao:

FYI. What is asked of you to verify depends on the CM. Last time I only had to show ID. CM handed it right back never took any info. Go figure.

Thanks for the info - Can my brother in law come and activate her ticket without having to activate one for himself?

Crackerjack-- yes.

Think of it this way: each sponsor's SSN can activate 6 tickets per year, and either the sponsor or his/her spouse can be the person who activates those 6 tickets in person. It's all tied to the ID number, but only sponsor OR spouse can activate. So since the OP's family is using all 6 tickets allocated to their sponsor, the niece can only go on an AFS ticket if her mom or dad can be there to activate it for her.
