Ariel Birthday Invitations - need help!!! :)

My dd is turning 5 this spring and she wants to have an "Under The Sea" Ariel birthday party. I am TERRIBLE at computers and all things creative, but I would like to have something more personal than just the invitations you buy and fill out.

I was hoping (fingers crossed) that someone may have done something similar like that before and could give me some pointers. I don't even have a clue as to what computer program to use to get started.

My daughter is also turning 5 and we are also hosting an Ariel themed party. As we have done for the Snow white and Cinderella parties in the past, we find images from the MANY illustrated storybooks we have and scan them into our computer. Once we have scanned the image, I use photoshop to remove the background, reposition the image for printing, adjust color, etc. as well as to add text. I use cardstock purchased from the big box craft retailers and print them once my design is complete. As an alternative if you lack this sophisticated and expensive software or the patience to figure out how to use it - you can color copy your storybook illustration, cut it out from its background, apply it to one of the elaborately patterned scrapbook cardstocks or papers and scan this into your computer. This way you can import the image stored as a jpeg or bmap into something as simple as Word to draft the text and print. Really simple, really fun, really personal AND your child gets a hand in the design when they select the picture.
