Argh. The 20% off coupon can't be used for Disney Giftcards afterall. :(

Although I don't see the Disney cards listed online, Target.com now has a subcategory named "speciality gift cards" for all non-Target gift cards. The drill down is Target>GiftCards>speciality gift cards.

I'm sad to see the discount gone from the Disney cards but it was great while it lasted. We scored big the last two years with the Facebook Friends deal but I guess the bean counters finally decided to stop subsidizing our vacations. ;)

More thanks to OP for graciously sharing "inside" information. :thumbsup2

I think I'll wait to hear from others before I throw in the towel. No offense to the OP.

Like many have said, it sounded too good to be true. I'm happy with the 10% off I'll get with the red/pharmacy rewards cards; I just won't be able to get as many as I was hoping to. I found it hard to believe that there would be any "meat left on the bone" for Target to make a profit on these cards with such a big discount.

However, I can see why many of us saw this as a possibility. The exclusions were not clearly stated. For instance, it did not name phone cards as an excluded item and it explicitly excluded specific card and merchandise. There are often discounts on these cards and I've stacked pharmacy rewards and a 10% phone card promotion and got nearly 20% off.

It's possible Target was aware of the feeding frenzy building over this 20% off promo and purposely kept the wording vague. Let's face it, this debate has been raging on all kinds of message boards and websites so it isn't exactly a secret that people were planning to wipe out the gift card kiosks if it worked. Target isn't stupid. AND...how many would have purchased that $75 worth of merchandise yesterday if they knew for certain ahead of time that it wouldn't work? Just the possibility that it might led to lots of extra sales, I would imagine.

Yeah... but those $75 purchases can be returned just as easily as they were purchased. Especially if they were purchased only for that 20% off Disney GCs.

In fact, others on another website have already used the 20% coupon for phone cards, as their Target ( or should I say, cashier) took the coupon early. Wonder what other cards will work with the coupon.

Thanks again for the info. My husband is working there this morning and he tried the 20% coupon and it didn't work for him either. Best of luck to everyone. Hope others have success.

I question the legality of them refusing to honor the discount for what they have always categorized as "entertainment cards." There are only a few listed exclusions and entertainment cards are not listed. By re-categorizing these types of cards without notice to the public in order to not honor the discount, they could be violating truth in advertising laws. It will be interesting to see if anyone contacts their state's Attorney General over this issue. I wasn't planning on getting any Disney cards, but had hoped to get a few restaurant and movie cards.
Regardless if it's listed in their system as an entertainment card, it says right on the disney gift card "gift card". Holds no legal grounds. Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards

What makes you think that the discount for using your pharmacy rewards and REDCard have disappeared? The 20%-off coupon doesn't work for gift cards. Neither did the moving 10%-off coupon. Just because those %-off coupons didn't work, that does mean that the REDCard5 and pharma5 won't.

If it is a gift card then why does the discount apply with Red cards and pharmacy rewards? I think they would have a hard time showing that they treat it as being different from a gift card at some times and not others.

I'm pretty annoyed. I went out to Target on Black Friday just to get the coupon so I could use it on Disney entertainment cards, which they did not specifically exclude.

Thanks to the OP for posting. I was hoping I would see some early experience posted here so I could save a trip.

I'm still going to be watching, though. I bet someone, somewhere, is going to find a sloppy price check and win Disney Discount Gold :cheer2: Hope they post it here if it happens!

This is the wording on the Target website concerning the pharma5 and REDCard5 discounts:

5% REDcard Discount program rule (Scroll down for Free Shipping at Target.com, REDcard Extended Returns program rule, and Target Pharmacy Rewards program rule):

When you use your Target Debit Card, Target Credit Card® or Target® Visa® Credit Card (each, a "REDcard®") at Target stores in the U.S. or Target.com, you will receive 5% off your purchases. If you use a REDcard in the same purchase transaction with another form of payment, the 5% discount will apply only to the purchase amount tendered to your REDcard. 5% discount applies to eligible purchases minus any other discounts and the value of any promotional Target gift cards received in the transaction. Target reserves the right to discontinue or alter the terms of this program at any time. 5% discount does not apply to the following:

Prescriptions, Target Clinic® services and Target Optical® eye exams
Target gift cards and prepaid cards
Previous purchases
Target credit account payments, Target Debit Card cash back and cash advances on the Target® Visa® Credit Card
Target Commercial Interiors® purchases
Gift wrap and shipping and handling charges on Target.com purchases
Where otherwise prohibited by law

Note that it specifically excludes TARGET GCs and prepaid cards. It says nothing about other GCs.

Can you use the 5% pharmacy discount in store to purchase Disney gift cards if you are paying with Target gift cards? Thanks.

Can we save the debate of the fairness and legality for another thread? Lets just have people's experience with buying here. It is almost 8!am easy coast breather about to open.

Ah, I see. I thought the 5% excluded all other gift cards and the Disney card was some sort of exception. So this was unlikely to ever have worked. Oh well, I need to buy a bicycle for Christmas and the 20% will still come in handy.

I was just about to leave to go to Target to purchase the gift cards. But then I read this thread. :( My dad is there now and going to try anyway. I will update how it goes.

The OP's husband"s experience isn't good enough? How many people have to try it and be turned down before people accept that the coupon won't work on Disney GC purchases? Or are you going to hold out for that individual who gets a cashier to force the discount?

Sorry, but you don't get to dictate the flow of conversation in a thread. You can always start a new thread about Target 20%-off success stories and hope that it remains on-topic.
