:scared1: There is a fungus among us!:scared1:

I was feeling a little nostalgic this afternoon and went and got out my old Nikon FG. I was looking at all the stuff thinking about all the fun we had and places it had seen and noticed in the zoom someting odd.
So I held it to the light and it got lens fungus on one of the inner elements! ARG!

Its not a expensive lens by no means but you hate to see something happen to you kit.

I read somewhere that you need to keep lenses with fungus away from your clean lenses, as it can make the jump over.

I'm not sure if it's an urban legend or not, but "just in case" it's probably a good idea to keep them separated. :)

I haven't found any of my older lenses (including some 47-year-old ones that I recently bought) with fungus, I'm not sure if it you need certain conditions to encourage the growth of that stuff? I'm guessing it likes heat and humidity at least.

I took a crash course last night in fungus 101 LOL and one place mentioned if it was a zoom and you zoom in and out in a moist enviroment you can trap some moisture so they reccomended in a dry enviroment to work the zoom a few times to displace the air inside and store with a desicant.

That actually seems to make sense cause I think I was shooting at the beach last time it was used and the fungus is on a inside element.

So Im going to try this new trick and add some more desicant to all the gear not in use.

Oh and the lens in question is going to be sadly packed away by itself no more hangin with its buds :)

Oh I also think the quality of the maker has something to do with it also cause like you say there are some older kit with no issues.
