I am currently planning a trip to California next summer. The plan is to fly into San Francisco and stay for 2 days and the drive down the PCH and stay in Southern California. We want to spend 2 days at DL and then the other 2 days visiting Santa Monica Pier and Hollywood area. Ideally we would like to rent a house/condo but I am struggling with finding a convenient location for our southern portion. Any suggestions?

You won't find a convenient location for Disneyland, Santa Monica and Hollywood because there is not one.

How many total nights is the trip? How many nights in SF? How many nights on the drive down? Does 2 days at Disneyland mean 2 or 3 nights?

For the days you want to be in Disneyland I'd get a hotel that is walkable. There are not a lot of convenient condos or homes nearby.

For Los Angeles (Santa Monica & Hollywood, etc) look at hotels in Santa Monica (no short term rentals in SaMo) or something in West Hollywood.

Summer is high season anywhere you are going in CA. Most places won't rent for just 2 nights at a time; many will want a whole week! If you want quiet, look for more boutique-style places in each area. If you want the kitchen/living area, consider a Homewood Suites or other hotel like that. There really isn't a good "central" location for the LA/DL stuff that is nice and doesn't still require an hour of driving to get to anything. As a PP mentioned, maybe one hotel in Hollywood with a part-day trip to Santa Monica, one Disneyland-area hotel. Where are you flying out of?
