I'm getting very frustrated with the school at this point.
Here we are, 4 days from the first day of school and we still don't have a bus schedule for the HS kids. And it's not the HS's fault, it's the elementary schools fault.
I need to know if DS16 has to be out there at 6 or 6:30, it makes a big difference!!
They've published the elementary bus schedule and the first kids are picked up at 7. Impossible if the bus is 2 towns over dropping the HS kids off at 7, which was the usual time last year.
UGH, why is this so hard?!?! It's not rocket science!!

Thankfully DH is home for a few weeks and I have a car pooling back up with a friend. I have a feeling I will be driving a lot in the next few weeks.

feel your pain Buffy....we still don't have a school calendar, no idea when school is even starting at this point :furious: hello people need to get things scheduled! good thing your DH will be around and you have your back up plan made!

OH my goodness!! That is crazy! They mail our tenative bus schedules out with the report cards the first week of summer so you have an idea of times. They do this with a note that if you pick-up/drop-off location has changed you have six weeks to notify the school (moved/babysitters, etc.). Then finalized schedules are mailed out with the school supply list, teacher letters, newsletter, etc. two weeks before school starts. If parents did not notify the school of changes they will not receive bus services the first few days of school until the routes are reworked.

Lisa I would be furious if I didn't have a school calendar! That is crazy! Our calendar comes out in January after Christmas break for the next school year. So families/teachers can plan vacations, holidays, etc. If I was a teacher in your district I would be going crazy!!

I am so sorry ladies!! I feel sorry for both of you :worried:

That is crazy! Unless our start time changes or buses get cut, our pick up times do not change. Our bus schedules come out at least a week before school starts.

I would be calling the school or the superintendent's office to find out what is the problem.

Yikes!!! I too would be furious. Can't believe that the school districts can't get their act together.

I've already emailed the principal at the elementary school. He has no clue when the bus schedule will be released. I'm not happy!!
Our bus route gets reworked every year because while the town is only 9 square miles, we have lots of roads and kids are spread out. We could have an entire road with no kids one year, and the next we'll have 4-5 kids. It's a pain!

Waiting until the last minute is ridiculous. But then again, it's not surprising. It's the same people I went off on last year for making DS16 run across mom's yard so the driver wouldn't have to turn right to go to our house then turn around and come back up the hill.
We are the second to the last pick up, the last kid lives further down the hill. If she picks both kids up she has to turn around at the gravel pit. Well, last boy got kicked off the bus so she refused to come pick DS up at the house, he had to bolt across the yard to catch the bus at the corner. I went ballistic on her!! What if it weren't my mom's yard? What if it was some schmuck who would rant and yell if people set foot on their lawn??

Lisa, has your town not passed their budget yet? Is that why you don't have a calendar?
We usually get our calendars in March or April. That's ridiculous that you don't even know when you child starts school. We have laws for when they have to end school, there has to be one for when they start too.

I'm not sure what the hold up is....I do know its due to the teachers and their contracts but not sure if its $$ or schedules, they must be keeping it under tight lock down since I haven't heard anything over the grapevine...called school yesterday and the secretaries don't know anything either....back to school day is Monday to get class schedules, lockers, etc so maybe they will have some news!

Buffy, I would have lost it on that bus driver! No way should they expect anyone to cross someone else's property to catch a bus!

Lisa, I can't even begin to imagine what the delay in releasing the start of school is. Even if it is contractual they should still have a start date.

ya'll are making me thankful that my boys are special ed - that way the bus picks up at my house

I don't understand. The bus stop is at xyz, the bus driver goes to xyz. End of discussion. She/he has to deal with the fact that they need to 'turn around.' As for the schedule, Morgan doesn't take a bus anymore since we live to close to the middle and high schools. It's fine with me, because she detested and learned a few choice words or seven being on the bus anyway (as an elementary kid - as a middle schooler, she'd be on the bus with high school kids, yeah, no thanks). As it is, the schedule comes out really late. I think it came out last week? I was always annoyed because I'm an organizer and I would have liked to have known sooner.

We start the Tuesday before Labor Day, get that Friday and Labor Day off. It's been that way for years, so we don't have to wait for a calendar. It usually comes out in March, anyway.

I feel for both of you. That's just mental.

Oh I feel your pain ladies. Every year (up until last year) it would come out the weekend before school starts. The bus garage would blame the newspaper on printing it late :headache: they have finally started putting it on the district web page but burried down 20 clicks! last year was insane, finally with the boys both on the same end of town i will have a normal pick up and drop off right??? no the dingbat didn't even put them down for pick up! I call and she's like its right there ummmm no you're dropping them off but I see no pick up time........ She laughed it off and added them but good gosh lady they've been picked up for 9 years in the same spot (except for last year) and you forgot them??? there hasn't been a year yet that I haven't had to call guess I'm just used to her and having to start off the school year this way.

Hang in there ladies.......

ya'll are making me thankful that my boys are special ed - that way the bus picks up at my house

The kicker?!? Mine are picked up at the house!!
We don't have group bus stops anymore. Although my house is the drop off for any kids that miss the bus. Not sure how that was picked, but I guess it's because when parents come down the side street they can see if DS is standing there. If he's there, they come over, if he's not the parents take the kids to the transfer station where the tech kids get on 1 bus, the Ag kids get on another and the other 2 buses go to the public HS.

DS16 is starting to stress!!
He got his schedule Wednesday. The texts have been flying to see who is in which class. His Ex in in 3 of his AP classes, his BFF (Twin 1) is in his French and his other BFF (Twin 2) is in his English. He is freaking out about the course load, running varsity and everything else. He does not need to be freaking out about the bus!!
I told him to go out at 6:15, if he's not picked up by 6:40 I'll take him to school. He has to be there no later than 7:10. HR starts at 7:25 but he has to go all the way across campus from the approved drop off zone, to his HR building.

Reddy to give you an idea of the size, this is an arial of the school, minus the new Atrium we just built. Drop off is at the light brown building on the right and home room is on the second floor of the long rectangular building on the left.
