Are You Worried About Iran's Feb 11 Threat to the West?

You see, this is what scares me the most. We act like it's business as usual to see maching gun toting military and think nothing can happen again. :sad2::sad2: You mark my words, they are not finished with us yet.

Snap, I honestly don't mean to make light of your fears, but I cannot live in fear every minute of every day. It's not healthy. I also tend to deal with things by making jokes about very serious issues. It's not meant to demean, it's just the way I deal with things. I'm positive there will be some sort of attack at some point -- it's inevitable. However, that doesn't mean that I won't find joy in life knowing that it's coming. I will not quit my job and stay home and wait. And unfortunately, it is business as usual when you work in the City to see gun toting military. The world changed on 9/11 and this is, unfortunately, our new reality.

I am not worried but aware of the threats. I think it is important for all of us to pay attention. I hope that those who are in place to know about these things and stop them from happening are doing all the right things. They have a difficult job. It would be hard to know what is a real threat and what is just a "crazy leader wanting attention".

A few things:

1). If Iran, or any country for that matter, were to launch a nuke, long-range missle, or anything toward us...we would be aware of it before it even left their air space.

2). Said missle would be destroyed and rendered useless in mid-air before any of us knew what happened.

3). The Iranian president is like a spoiled child who throws a tantrum if he is not the center of attention.

4). While being prepared for certain unforseen events is not a bad thing...the dangerous results that worrying causes on the human body is a lot more deadly, and kills more people on a daily basis than anything Ahmadinejad can do.

5). "All computers will crash on January 1st, 2000." "The terrorists are planning massive attacks on U.S. shopping malls for Halloween 2001." "Iraq is harboring WMD's". "The world is ending in 2012." Remember any of these? Yeah...um, the Boogey Man is scary too.

6). Finally. Have a little more faith in our Military and national security.

7). And if I'm completely wrong and we do end up getting wiped off the map Thursday...then I really should be down at WDW partying it up right about now.

Counterpoints:

1.) Yes that's true but...
2.) That is far from a sure thing, we are still a long way from having a missile defense system that can stop any and all missiles that launch, there's been great debate about it recently.
3.) The Iranian president is a figurehead more than anything else, the Ayatollah calls the shots

When you look at his comments, I don't think a "punch" to the Western world refers to an attack on us.

What he is saying is that we will receive a punch to our arrogance, or to our arrogant assumptions, when we see the Iranian people pour out into the street on February 11 (the anniversary of the revolution) in support of the President of Iran. It will be a "punch" to everything the West has said about Iran -- that the Iranian people don't back the current President, that the opposition is gaining momentum. It's a punch to our arrogance for thinking we know so much.

I think he just means we'll be stunned by the wild shows of love and support for the current Iranian President.

Here are his words:
"The Iranian nation, with its unity and God's grace, will punch the arrogance (Western powers) on the 22nd of Bahman (February 11) in a way that will leave them stunned."

Also (from CNN's website):
The state-run Press TV quoted Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday as saying that the nation will deliver a harsh blow to "global arrogance" on February 11.

Though I think it would be silly to totally ignore what's happening in the world I don't think we should let it effect our daily lives as if we do I feel that we've let them win.

I think this well known prayer sums it up...

"Give us grace to accept with serenity the things that cannot be changed, courage to change the things which should be changed, and the wisdom to distinguish the one from the other."

If I can't effect the outcome, then worrying won't help.

I wonder if maybe that will be the day he admits to finding a gay Iranian. Announcing it so close to Valentine's day is just a shout out to love, regardless of the form it takes. :confused3

Just because I might "worry" about certain things does not mean I don't enjoy my life or that I live in constant fear. It doesn't mean I dwell on these things every minute of every day.

I'm worried about my DH making it home in the snowstorm today. Of course I can't do anything to stop the snow, I can't make sure the trains will be running, etc. Do I still worry about him having a heart attack if he has to walk home? Yes. Is it rational? Probably not, but some of us are worriers and some aren't.

Snap, the only thing I can say is you probably worry about it more than your husband. I always thought 9/11 was worse on my family than me. I knew I was okay. They didn't -- at least not for a little while. I was in my office until noon, and then didn't get home until about 5 or 6 p.m. Even though nothing else further happened, we didn't know for sure that something wouldn't, so it was hard of them. They watched everything unfold on TV. I was fortunate enough not to see the actual events as they happened. I'm not saying your worries are unfounded. Believe me, I'm the biggest worrier in the world, but I would honestly have major depression and panic attacks if I thought about it all the time. I worry about leaving my daughter behind and not seeing her grow up, go to college, get married, raise a family, but there's really nothing I can do to prevent something from happening. If I spent my time worrying about "what if", I'd miss out on the here and now.

Everyone deals with things in their own way and time. I joke about things. I realize that may be offensive to some, and if I have offended you, or anyone else I apologize, but that's just who I am. I also don't expect you to apologize for worrying, because that's just the way you cope.

Hopefully we'll all be back her on 2/12 breathing a sigh of relief. :grouphug:

PK, you know I love you  All I'm trying to point out is just because some of us worry more than others, that does not translate to "all the time". I wasn't targeting you in my response, just the general feeling from some that people who worry are neurotic.

Just a lot of rhetoric, or not? If not, what do you think they have planned? My guess is some sort of nuke test, etc.

Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Monday that Iran is set to deliver a "punch" that will stun world powers during this week's 31st anniversary of the Islamic revolution.
"The Iranian nation, with its unity and God's grace, will punch the arrogance (Western powers) on the 22nd of Bahman (February 11) in a way that will leave them stunned," Khamenei, who is also Iran's commander-in-chief, told a gathering of air force personnel.

We sure live in a scary world :guilty:

It got my attention, Seahunt. The attempted attack in Dec. of a U.S. commercial flight, came painfully close to success because many warning signs were unheeded. It was the passengers that thwarted the mission.

Well, whatever the plan is the government is preparing for protests. Much like during the election protests, the government is starting to crack down on means of communication. Cnet has posted the first of what will surely be many articles about it.

Can I ask what the heck does it do to WORRY??? Can some housewife in Paducah worrying stop ANYTHING????

If you have faith, pray. If you are concerned, do something that you feel is productive. Worrying is a waste of energy.

Matt 6:34: Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

We've got duct tape on our door, so nothing can mess with us now!

doesn't everyone's doors look like that?? Or do we just duct tape them like that here in TN?

:rotfl:

I didn't know about any type of threat. The 12th is my b-day so I'd really like a shot at 45. :) Good thing I have my doors duct taped.

AMEN, love it Robinrs :thumbsup2!

My faith is certainly my stronghold and has gotten me through some very tough times. :flower3:

I'm a believer, 'If He leads you to it, He will lead you through it'!

That could probably be answered by some husbands in Paducah;)
