Are you working/is your company open on January 2nd?

I'm off. My kids are off. I teach preschool, and we follow our local school district calendar.

My DH & I work for small companies (10 employees and 61 employees, respectively) and both of our offices are closed on Jan 2, 2012. They are a paid for holiday for both of us.

DD's school is also closed (they go back Jan 4).

I work for an aerospace company, and we were pretty surprised when we saw that 1/2/2012 is a normal work day. I'm taking Mon-Thu off as vacation. Friday is our normal off day (we get every other Friday off).

My husband is military, he has off from the 16th through the 3rd. Gotta love being at a training base... Christmas exodus.

I'm a SAHM, so no day off, but DH gets it off because 1/1 is a Sunday.

Using your logic, your dh doesn't have the day off either since he will be home with the kids as well.

OP, we are closed from Dec 24th to Jan 9th, same as the schools here. Since Jan 1 is on a Sunday and it is a paid statutory holiday, people here will get the 2nd off.

Well, I think everyone should have January 2nd off every year. It IS a holiday; it's my birthday!:rotfl:

Unfortunately the school I teach at scheduled a teacher workday for that day. I already told them I won't be there, as I don't ever work on my birthday;)

I work at a community college and if NYD comes on a weekend we have ALWAYS had that Monday off, until this year. The calendar committee messed up.

Because I work in the VP's office, I have gotten numerous calls from other staff and faculty asking about it, but sadly that is the day we report back to work. (of course we are off from the 17th to the 2nd, so they don't have a lot to gripe about)

I'm working January 2nd, as is my boyfriend. We both have the 31st and the 1st off.

January 2 is a paid holiday for us--I work at a college.

Same. We get either Christmas week or New Years week off. We also get both dec. 26 and jan. 2 off. The students get 5 weeks, coming back after MLK.

It is a bank holiday so we are closed. Any day on this list is a PTO day for us.

You mean it's a company holiday off with pay? PTO for most is Paid Time Off which is all inclusive of vacation, sick and personal days.

DH's company has this day as New Year's holiday since NYD is on a weekend.

Interestingly enough DH's company has added a "holiday" this year. The day after Thanksgiving, making it 7 paid holidays.

New Year's Day
Memorial Day
4th of July
Labor Day
Thanksgiving Day
Day after Thanksgiving
Christmas Day.

Other "Bank/Federal Holidays" they have to work if on a weekday unless they take PTO.

My husband's company did something nice, though I am not sure how it worked on the 2011 holiday schedule.

Instead of having the 2nd off for the 1st, he gets 2 days off after Christmas. I like that better. So it is as business as usual on the first Monday of the new year.

our district is usually off until the 3rd. For whatever reason, this year the teacher's have a workday on the 2nd. The kids are off until the 3rd, which makes my dd's very unhappy- it's their 13th birthday. They say they ALWAYS have to go back on their birthday, it's the only thing the two of them agree on lol.

I work at a bank- we are off the 2nd. If a holiday falls on a Sunday- we are off the following Monday. Yay!!

We have a standard policy...if the actual holiday falls on a Saturday, then we have the Friday before off. If it falls on a Sunday we have Monday off.

So we are off Friday 12/23 & Monday 12/26 for Christmas Eve & Day & Monday 1/2 for New Years Day.

I'm certain we'll be back at work. Wish we had the day, because coming back to a 5 day week after a full week off is wicked hard.

The schools I work at go back on Jan. 2.

Well I'm a Mommy so I guess technically I don't get a day off but......since I work outside the home as well yes, I get 1.2.12 off and yes it absolutely is a paid day off. Same with DBF. We only 1.2 off because 1.1 is on a Sunday.

Yes, it is a holiday so we are closed, get paid, and it doesn't deduct from out PTO pool. I probably shouldn't have used PTO.

Of course it was messed up. It was done by a.....committee.
