Are you using this Baby Product?

Or would you? I thought I had invented something until I googled my idea and found several already on the market. Its a holder for a bottle that has like a stand that it fits on and can be maneuvered in different ways. That way if you have 2 babies, and can't bottle feed one, you can put the bottle in this holder thing and let the baby lay in the baby bed and it holds the bottle for them. Sometimes you may have propped a bottle up with them in a blanket or whatever. It saves you from always having to hold the bottle for your baby. Have you used these? Did you not even know about them now are going to run out and buy one? Do you think its a bad idea or product? Just curious.

I do not use bottles, but to me it sounds like a bad idea. One of the benefits of breastfeeding is cuddling and skin-on-skin contact, having a holder so you don't even have to hold your baby yourself when you are bottle-feeding completely takes that away. Like I said, I've never used bottles, so I don't know of any circumstances where that might be needed.

For me, no. :) Once we switched over to bottles from nursing, I cuddled and held the baby until they could hold the bottle themselves. :)

It's been around for quite a while. I used one with my DD8 when she was a baby and had a bottle. Granted, i didn't use it all the time. Usually when we were in the car and things like that. It was good to use every now and then.

I use the Podee bottle with my twins :)

When I first re-invented this, :rotfl2: that was one of my thoughts, oh this would be great for someone with twins, triplets, where you can't hold both or all 3 of your babies at the same time, baby sitters who maybe have 2 or 3 kids they are watching, tired mothers that are so exhausted, they just can't hold the bottle at the moment. But its a moot point anyway for me, since there are products like this already out there. I was just curious, thanks for your opinions.

When our twins were infants we had a bottle with a long straw type attachment that was GREAT for feeding them on long car trips. They nursed mostly but kind of hard to do that in a moving vehicle. You could just put the bottle next to them in the car seat and the nipple was attached to a long, flexible straw that went into the bottle. They were the BEST thing for traveling :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I thought the same thing. It might be useful for a mother of multiples, but I wouldn't use one myself. I never propped a bottle with either of my kids. (first was bf, second was ff, but I liked to cuddle and look into her eyes when I fed her. )

I can see that it would be nice for a mom of multiples, but if you have one baby, why not just hold the bottle and cuddle the baby? I wouldn't buy this sort of product.

I don't like it, but I am not a fan of propping bottles at all. I guess if you had triplets or more and it was just you, it might be needed at times.

We use a Podee for DS when we're on the go and don't have time to snuggle. It's not propped and DS can take it out of or put it in his mouth. I love that thing!

I can see that maybe if you had multiples and they were both screaming at the same tie to be fed, then maybe this would help. However, with one, I would never use this. I didn't breast feed, but my favorite thing was to snuggle while feeding the baby. In fact I would laugh because I used feeding the baby as an excuse to sit down and just relax and do nothing but look at him or her and snuggle. Usually the baby would fall asleep and then I would too with him on my chest in the recliner.

I do recommend a recliner to all new moms, by the way. They are great if the baby won't sleep anywhere but on you, that way you both can sleep.

Since you asked, I will answer. What if you have older kids and are helping with homework, cooking dinner, packing lunches, or trying to clean? My children loved to "eat". They would eat every two hours. I asked the pediatrician and she said it was fine. Asked about the bonding and she said that she wouldn't recommend using it all the time but if it frees up your hands so you can go about other things once in a while that would be fine. She did math and figured if the baby was taking 8 bottles a day using this twice a day would mean you were still cuddling with baby for 6 of those. All was well.

My original idea was to include a large Card board cut out of a lifesize picture of a nanny that it came with. The parents could substitute a life size picture of themselves, or daddy (gone on trip, overseas, in military whatever) and the bottle holder would be a fake hand, like a halloween prop type hand/arm. :rotfl2:Is this weird, funny, does it make the idea better? Worse. I am actually glad I'm not doing it because it sounds like they're not that popular. I see a lot of negative reaction and my own SO doesn't really like the idea either.

I thought that I had read in many places when my kids were little that bottle propping was actually dangerous and not something that should be done under any circumstances. Maybe I was wrong????

Now this I could see. Not for every day but for once in a while in emergencies.

I think the companies that make these products probably have disclaimers that the baby is never to be left un-attended while in use etc., because it could be dangerous if the baby were allowed to choke, unsupervised etc.

Correct. There are disclaimers. Also, the baby shouldn't be laid flat. My child was always in a chair or car seat when propped with a bottle. They make little stuffed animals that hold the bottle too.

I have no problem with other people using product like this, and can see some times when it would be necessary, but since you asked, I found it very easy to hold my baby and feed her while helping my older dd with homework. I planned packing lunches and cooking dinner (as well as laundry, showers, workouts, etc.) around her feedings and if it so happened that she got hungry in the middle of it, the older one loved to hold her little sis and feed her (or her dad, of course, if he was home). Cleaning? Well, I always welcome a break from cleaning! ;)

Again, I have no problem with other people using these, and could even see myself using them in special circumstances, but I didn't see a need in everyday life. But then, I also nursed my first, so I was used to taking time out from whatever we were doing to feed the baby. With the second, just being able to sit next to her car seat and feed her while driving or during airplane take off/landing seemed so easy!

Thanks for not judging those that decide to use them. Maybe it was because I worked full time so only had so many hours to get everything done??? Or, maybe I just wasn't as good at time management as some people. I just know this was a great thing to have at certain times.
