Are You The Only One That Has A Clue At Your Workplace?

I am an office mgr and some days I feel like everyone I work with is either a total slacker or is as dumb as a bunch of rocks. I know that sounds harsh, but one of my co-worker's (also a mgr of another dept) that I need to work closely with has the worst attitude and the secretary we hired 4 months ago is so useless. I really try to be patient and teach her in a very non-critical way and by telling her what a good job she is doing when she does something correctly but she keeps repeating the same mistakes over and over and over. I really work hard at my job ( even though I pop in here once and a while) and have been taught all my life to give 100% and to take pride in my work, but I guess not everyone feels the same way.

I guess I'm just having one of those days...thanks for letting me vent.

You're not alone. There is one other guy at work who I consider to be "up to speed" and he thinks the same of me. We both breathe a sigh of relief when we see the others name on the schedule. The others seem to do only enough to get by, leave for the day without finishing everything they are supposed to, get umpteen calls a day from spouses and friends, call in sick if they break a nail (then stay out for a whole week).....the list is endless.

Thank goodness I don't feel that way since I work at a school. There are days though.... haha

Fortunately we are all pretty bright but there is one lady that we wonder how she made it to her 50's. Dumb as a doorknob and the only reason she isn't fired is because the big-wigs feel some sort of obligation to her because she has been here 15 yrs.

Actually, I work in a creative, competitive environment with a lot of very bright, motivated, professional, likeable people! And I've been there (with more or less the same people) for about 7 years now.
I realize how lucky I am. I've had jobs that were awful.

However... There are always one or two who are just coasting. Lately they've found themselves on the chopping block though. My job is also extremely deadline-oriented, so if you slack, you're dead.

I know I feel that I am the only who has a clue sometimes. Of course all my coworkers probably think they are the only ones who have a clue, too.

I've had jobs where I've felt like that. Having put those experiences behind me, I can honestly say that I refuse to work in an environment where that is the case ever again. Here at my office, we all rock when it comes to doing our jobs and we all get along - which is almost more important than being on the ball sometimes.
