Are you talking to your children about the possibility of war?

Definately. They know we are watching more news etc. They are 7 and 9 and also hear about it at school. Many of their friends fathers/mothers have been deployed since we live in a military community. We have kept the details to a minimum and they haven't asked. They just know that they President and the military are doing what they need to do to keep us safe.

I was teaching 1st grade when Dessert Storm started. Although we were trying to avoid upsetting kids that had parents involved (I had several Dad's from my classroom in Kuwait) and just keep things as normal as possible - they were already talking about it on the playground on their way into the classroom.

That said, it is a parent's responsibility and other adults really shouldn't address it with young ones unless the young ones bring it up( and even then should keep the discussion to a minimum). I'm irritated today because my 2nd grader came home spouting all sorts of details of the Elizabeth Smart story he evidently learned from his music teacher - the same music teacher who told my then third grader detailed stories last year about people jumping out of the World Trade Center! My kids knew about both these events but they didn't need details.
