Are you supposed to tip a couch delivery person?

We just purchased our very first new couch!! We have always bought used ones in the past through Craigslist. It is being delivered on Monday.

Is it customary to tip the delivery person? If so, how much do you tip? We paid extra for delivery so I'm not sure if we are supposed to tip as well.

Thanks!

We usually tip $5 per guy if the furiture is big and awkward or they go out of their way to do something extra.

Thank you-I will remember to have two 5's on me for Monday! It is not an irregular shaped couch & they are only going up 4 steps into the house, but it is a recliner couch so they will need to set it up when they get it in here.

We never tip furniture or appliance delivery people. They are salaried and not driving their own vehicles. Or, they are contracted by the company to deliver. We do tip restaurant delivery people well because they are typically hourly, make less than minimum wage and drive their own vehicles. More than likely most companies have policies against their delivery people accepting tips. We do, however offer them something to drink, especially on hot days.

i would say that no, you are not supposed to. will you or do people. yes.

I would. I had Home Depot deliver a new bathroom vanity Monday. The receipt with the delivery iformation on it stated the items would be delivered to the curb. I paid $10 to each of the 2 delivery men to bring it in the house.

For what I paid in delivery charges, the company should be tipping the delivery guys.

That's a little different. You paid them to do more than they were required to.

Only if they do something extra. (I delivered furniture for a few years right out of high school). We had a sofa delivered last week and the store said they'd move any furniture out of the way even into another room and even put it on the delivery slip. We have a one story house and wanted the old sofa moved to another room. The guys told us it was too large to fit throught the door and left. My wife and I then moved the old sofa into the other room on our own. The store got an earful from us the next day. The store was Rooms to Go here in central Florida.

No tip for delivering one piece of furniture. A whole home is different.

A tip would be appreciated but I don't think furniture delivery guys expect a tip all the time. Some people tip, others don't.

I doubt they'll spit on your front steps if you decline.

For one sofa, I'd say $5 to each of two guys is perfectly adequate.
