Are You Skipping Disney This Year?

nope not skipping

Upgraded to an AP last month and going more. :) Had some trips kind of fall into place.

Possible trip this summer (offsite, and depends on nephew's team qualifying for nationals).

Fall Trip (trip to another location fell through so I am doing Disney instead)

Winter Trip (as long as I have the AP I figure another trip is already 'discounted')

I am single so can vacation cheaper than a family

I like the new FP+ It actually fits my style better than the FP-

As long as I have an AP I might as well live it up this year. :rotfl: Although I won't lie right now it looks like Airfare is going to hurt.:scared1:

When we go back to WDW this fall, we will be staying on property with our DVC points. HOWEVER, we are renting a car and skipping Magical Express, purchasing Annual Passes for Universal Studios and skipping all the craziness that Disney has become. Our last two trips were complete debacles between the MDE (a complete mess from beginning to end), the FP+, MagicBands that did not work for half of our party and the complete mess they made of our room charges. I am OVER it! They can keep their "technology" that doesn't function. I'm going back to KTTK exclusively ...... Without charging privileges attached to the room, since I don't trust that any longer.

What you said pretty much accounts for one of the many reasons we won't be going this year.

In addition:

We no longer enjoy eating on site. Not that good and too expensive.
We no longer enjoy the parks as much, too crowded.
We dread buying tickets due to the cost. We just bought 10 day non-exp passes because that way we can stretch out the use over several years.

We have been to WDW at least twice a year since 1992.

We won't be back until 11/2015.

We WERE going to skip it for a few years. We've been every year since 2008. Reasons....
1). It's getting too expensive. We used to go for about 1/2 what we spend now. Granted we've got more kids and they are now considered Disney adults.
2). We bought a camper and planned to spend a few years doing more local vacations within about a 14 hour drivable radius.
3). I was confused about all the changes. I used to know how to "do" Disney with very little wait or planning and felt like an expert. I didn't want to put the time and effort into relearning everything.
THEN ....,.my extended family decided to do a group trip. My moms showing signs of dementia and I thought this might be our only chance to do something together like this. We went in February and did have a great trip. It really can't be beat for an easy group vacation with a variety of ages and interests. But I was right. It was too expensive and I didn't care for the changes at all. Although I do still love Disney.

We got home and my husbands family says that they want to do the same thing next year. I think we're going to pass.

I feel it's just getting too expensive for what it's worth. Too much waiting in line and I won't even start about the crowds. Kids are teens now so I just can't pull them out of school for even a couple of days.

I think our next Orlando trip will be to Universal Studios. I just can't wait to see the new Harry Potter land. I will definitely be staying on site to utilize their express pass. Nothing at WDW is wanting me to go there. WDW needs to step it up. They need to do something about the lines and they need new rides. Maybe once the FP+ is fully running then we will go back and test it out. I know I'm the minority here, but I would pay deluxe hotel prices at WDW to get something like Universal's express pass.

We haven't been since 2009. We took some time off to do other vacations. But this year we have a graduation party to pay for, college tuition coming up, we are helping our daughter buy a car and we have some medical bills to pay for.

That pretty much sucked up the vacation budget and then some this year.

I think we're kind of the opposite of everyone here... we're gearing up for more Disney than in the past.

We are CA residents, and had APs for several years, which we let lapse almost 2 years ago or so. We were gearing up to buy a house, and the price went up quite a bit. If it hadn't been for the price increase, we probably would have kept them. When we had passes, we went every two months-ish.

Now that we are all settled, we are looking forward to going back to DLR for the first time in almost 2 1/2 years in September. We will get passes again then. For us, DLR is a great and cheap weekend trip once we have passes. Our hotel is generally less than 200 (offsite), gas is about 80 (go, go gadget Hybrid), and we bring our own breakfast and snacks, then typically split lunch, and don't do TS meals except the occasional pizza at Naples. So for us, not including passes, it's generally 350 or less for us for a weekend that we really enjoy. We do that for anniversaries, birthdays, and just fun weekends together,

We're also getting ready for our first WDW trip in the beginning of 2015. Admittedly, I second guess that decision a fair bit. For us, a week long stay is likely around 4k to stay onsite (moderate) with airfare. For that amount, there are still so many other trips we could take. And... sometimes the Debbie Downer parade on the boards makes it hard to stay excited about the trip :guilty:... But I can't shake the feeling that it's something DH and I would both really enjoy (he's an even bigger Disney geek than I am)

We're also considering a Disney cruise at the end of 2015 for my 30th birthday... so I guess you could say we are upping our Disney quota in the next year and beyond.

I will continue to plan my trips. We do Disney and Universal Studios each trip usually every other year. Yes, I can see where changes definitely need to be made but I enjoy the trip. We never have been extreme fast pass people but longer lines don't sound like a lot of fun but we can make the best of it. We always rent a car and stay on site. We prefer dinner offsite throughout Orlando. Still miss Pleasure Island but found Atlantic Dancehall on Boardwalk fills our needs for now.

we are skipping too. We have been every year to year and a half (sometimes more) since 2005.

Reasons:

1- wanting to visit other places with our kids

2- value for our vacation $. Our trip last april was so expensive compared to the past.

3- I hate fast pass plus

4 - we want something exciting again. Maybe it because we have gone so many times, but its not as exciting as it used to be, especially when we are paying so much for it!

5- I want to wait until all the new attractions are open (and not new).

We have found we love cruising. My kids picked that over disney for this years vacation. But we did go to disney twice last year.

Next vacation in the fall will be either a cruise or another destination- its DH's pick for his 40th. He does not want to do Disney again right now.

(And yes, someone had a great point- we did a Disney cruise back in 2011- that same cruise is now almost twice as much- which is why we cruise either royal or carnival). If people keep paying it, they will keep raising the price. I guess I have decided there are other things that are more exciting and better values. Disney used to the "cheaper" vacation. Now its the most expensive. Our cruise is much cheaper in comparison.

Went in January and it was horrible - for many reasons. Planning to go back to Oerlando, but not likely Disney

Yes and no. We have went annually for the last 5 years. Three were on-site and two were off-site. The last visit, where we stayed in a condo and rented a car was the best fit for our family. We also got a taste of Disney freedom and realized there is more to Orlando than just Mickey.

I'm not a FP+ fan. I haven't experienced it, but I know I won't like it. Nope, not even giving it a chance.

Son will be 8 and loves thrill rides, husband likes waterparks. I'm really the Disney lover of the group. So....

We will spend a week in Orlando, 3 days at Universal, 1 at Wet N Wild, 1 at the beach, 1 at DTD, and 1 to go to the MNSSHP.

We did something similar one year (although we were there for 16 days). We did US/IOA, SeaWorld, Busch Gardens and Wet n' Wild with one night at MK for the Pirates and Princesses Party. We all agreed it was one of the best trips we'd done in a long time.
