Are you loyal to one car brand?

My grandparents and uncle worked for Ford. Due to the employee discount only Fords were purchased (and handed down) in the family. DH's parents also both worked for Ford--same story on that side too.

Our Chrysler minivan was deemed "acceptable" by the in-laws because Ford no longer made that model.

My father was a mechanic for Toyota. As a family, we always drove Toyotas. As an adult, I always drove a Toyota. I recently bought a Mazda and felt so bad! I had a similar feeling when I finally stopped drinking Maxwell House coffee!

In the 2000 box office bomb “Drowning Mona” everyone drove Yugos.

I have preferences like Honda over Toyota but that doesn't mean I wouldn't own a Toyota..it just means that if both offer a similar vehicle that suits my needs...I'll probably go for the Honda product.

Brands I own/owned:
Honda/Acura
Mitsubishi
FIAT
Ram
Jeep
Land Rover
Tesla
Ford chasis (if that counts)

No. These are the vehicles I've acquired new over the past 25'ish years. All were leased except the Astra and Caliber and what I got at the time was completely dependent on what caught my eye and what I could make a favorable deal on. I'm due to turn my Mazda over in a little less than a year and if things go according to my current thinking, I'll be looking at a Toyota hybrid.

Honda CRV
Saturn Ion
Saturn Astra
Dodge Caliber
Nissan Juke
Nissan Qashqi
Mazda CX30

If it doesn't say Toyota or Honda on it, I'm not interested. There's a reason they're consistently at the top of the list (or near it) for reliability and lowest maintenance costs.
A friend who retired 2 years ago after 50 years as a Toyota Dealer Mechanic always told people that "if Toyotas are so good, how come every dealer have a service department, and why is the service department the most profitable part of the dealership?"
In Toyota's defense, he also noted that when Toyota screws up, they take care of their customers and repair any problems for free, often for the life of the car. Things like Toyota V-6's blowing head gaskets. My friend said not only did Toyota fix the head gaskets, but instructed dealers to fix any internal engine issues for free. My friend worked on one Toyota pickup with 400,000 miles on it that blew a head gasket. The engine was worn out, and Toyota replaced the entire engine for free. His dealership did millions of dollars of those head gasket repairs.
And of course there are the issues with Toyota pickups where the frames rusted through.

That statement makes no sense since any gasoline powered car is going to need service. It doesn't matter how reliable the car is.

You actually drove that Dodge Caliber? That was the only rental car I ever drove that I turned it back in after driving 5 miles. A complete piece of junk.

 Yeah, I drove it for almost 3 years and although it was purchased under duress (long story), it actually performed acceptably for me. And it was modestly stylish, comfortable and much roomier than anything else in its class at the time. If I'm remembering it correctly, the timeframe was 2010 - 2012.

Service is a loss leader. Warranty Repairs are where they make their money.

Because every dealership has a service department, and it has the highest gross profit margin of all revenue. That's not unique to Toyota.

We’ve mostly had Fords, Hondas and Toyotas. Mostly loyal to Toyota right now. I drive a Highlander, DH has a Tacoma and middle DD has a Corolla. Oldest DD has a VW Passat, but that was because we bought MIL’s car when she passed away.

I absolutely love my Highlander. Less excited about the Tacoma—for riding and driving comfort I prefer the Honda Ridgeline. DH likes the Tacoma fine though and he is the primary driver of that vehicle.

We’ve had a mix of cars but one of them has been a Subaru since 1990. 1985 Honda hatchback (me), DH had a small Ford Ranger pickup, then we had kids. 1990 Subaru Legacy Wagon, 1994 Dodge caravan, 2001 Subaru Outback, 2003 Volvo XC 90 (lemon), 2004 Subaru Impreza for the kids to drive, down to our current cars a 2011 Subaru Outback and a 2008 Buick Enclave.

Not really. Over the decades I’ve had Ford products, Chevys, Dodge, Honda, Kia, Volkswagen, and Toyota. It depends what I like when it’s time for a new car.
