are you do anything extra to prepare for another attack?

I understand that those who called all the press conferences are dammed if they do and dammed if they don't. Somehow it seems where I am, most wish they didn't. It also seems as if most are blowing this off due to the fact that they have cried that "sky is falling" too many times already.

You are right. If they have the press conference people are sick of hearing about it, but if they don't and there is an attack....Boy, can you even begin to imagion how the heads would roll on that??

We are not doing anything different. On our local news they had some guy saying how since the possible targets have been named, most likely those will not be the ones attacked. My Dh works near the financial district in Chicago and the Board of Trade is right next to his train station. The guy on the news used these as possible "back-up" places that might be on the lists. I am a bit worried, but am going on about my daily routine.

If we live in fear, then the terrorists have won.

I'm not downplaying this stuff (after all, I work in NYC), but what do you think people in Israel do everyday? They live.

I guess there are many more people in the world facing more serious and real threats then we are in the USA. If they can live with it then we can. Its just a shame that anyone has to live with threats against their very existence but unfortunately that is the way it is now.

We're not doing anything different, but then I try not to think about it. I just want to live and not worry about what may happen. Lifes too short to spend it worrying.

No - In fact, I'm flying to New York City in 9 days to spend 4 days (leisure trip). Can't wait! :)

The only thing we are not doing is placing money in the stock market. We have some money we want to invest, but have decided to wait until after the election.

Beyond that, we just walk tall in NYC and no one will make us cower before them.

And that's one of the most important things you can do. I know it took a lot for folks in the "named" buildings in NY, NJ and DC to go to work today. But they did it -- and that says a lot about who we are. A big thank you to all of them.

I'm also in the "always back of mind" in terms of preparation. After 9/11, it's a way of life just like the Israelis are always prepared. Still, it's chilling to hear of the actual plans....even though we knew they are always thinking of something new.

I am surprised about how it seems many parts of the country seem to think they are unaffected and/or that it was a one time event. It's almost like 9/11 was a hurricane or other natural disaster that is now over. And, unfortunately, Bid Laden and his henchmen know that's how we think. They are single-mindedly evil while we can sometime be overly optimistic. We can't live in fear but we also can't live in denial.

outside of keeping a beeper, cell phone charged and extra cash nothing much

IF they do attack financial institutions, then the effects will be more far-reaching than just in the attack cities. Just like with 9/11 when flights all over were grounded.

The thing with financial institutions is how widespread the impact could, potentially, be. And what what period of time, I'm not sure - I guess it depends on how long it would take to get everything operational again. I'm guessing a worst-case scenario would mean a complete shutdown of all financial transactions, including online access to bill payments, credt card transactions, and ATMs. I don't work in the financial field, but I do know how widespread and interconnected these networks are. It's amazing how one thing can be so dependant on something in a completely different state/country.

Many Canadians I know are not worried at all about terrorist attacks. Not that they're not concerned for our neighbour to the south, but most people I know either have no concept of how entangled the Canadian systems are with the US (financial and otherwise) or just feel that well we're a different country, they're not after "US". Somehow I just don't think that an invisible dividing line is going to make that much of a difference. And with the number of flights leaving Canada that have to go through the US, a shutdown of the flights or the border is a big thing. Also the produce and other goods that cross the border any given day - it's overwhelming.

We have enough $$ on hand to deal with emergencies for a while, and enough food to last about a week. We typically have that on hand though, since we live in the Canadian prairies where you never know what can happen. Severe storms in the summer, blizzards in the winter, you just never know when you're going to be stuck without access to essentials.

We will probably take in a Newark Bears baseball game this week ( www.newarkbears.com ) in the heart of Newark, NJ like we usually do.

We will probably take the ferry over to NYC ( www.nyctourist.com ) this weekend and walk around like we usually do.

Oh yeah and the best part we will probably be going to WDW ( www.disneyworld.com ) this summer like we usually do.

Screw the terrorists!!!

God Bless America!

I can't say where dh works, but suffice to say he was greeted with machine guns upon entering, just standard operating procedures for times like these. We just go on with our daily lives. I like the cash idea and I always have a little bit stashed away, except the ds have discovered where our emergency fund is hidden. I usually dont let my gas tank go below a quarter tank. I have always been like that. DH gets to about the fumes etc. Drives me crazy.

AMEN SISTER!

No, we won't be doing anything. I suppose it's never a bad idea to have some cash stashed somewhere in the house (literally we don't have $1 in cash anywhere) but we should be doing that regardless just in case. DH is not worried, neither am I.

That's what the terrorists want... us to all freak out and live in fear. I refuse.

I work for a brokerage house, and I am doing EXACTLY what Mayor Bloomberg and Gov. Pataki said to do...GO TO WORK...GIVE MY SELF EXTRA TIME FOR THE COMMUTE...interrupting the financial institutions here in NYC and the rest of the United States is exactly what these terrorists want us to do.

Be safe and careful...::yes::

That was what was so inspiring after 9/11. The New York Stock Exchange came fighting back right away. They did not succeed in creating the economic ruin they intended every bit as much as they wanted to kill people. It's not just the military that's fighting this war. It's all of us every day.

Even if Wall Street was hit or the IMF it would not cause our economy to shut down. Do not buy into the hyper-crazed media. On 9/11 the companies that were "physically destroyed" still transferred operations to their UK or other non-US counterparts to continue operations. All institutions have two to three back up plans in case distaster strikes.

Being alert is good, being paranoid is not.

No, but I do beleive the media plays to the alarmists. I didn't even stock up of duct tape and plastic wrap last time!

The extra cash out is reminiscent of the Y2k SCARE. Did anything happen then with the banks? NOPE!

I am just going about my day, enjoying life. No sense in going nuts over something I can't control at all.

No, not really. There is not a whole lot in Montana that terrorists would be interested in. We are close to the Canadian border, but they have stepped up security there since some suspected terrorists tried to pass over up here a while ago. So many people here hunt for food and own guns, actually, a terrorist would be foolish to try something up here! :smooth: Some of our banks here are independant, not national chains, so I do not think a technology "attack" in a larger population area would have much affect for us.

Yeah, vote Democrat this November. . .
