Hi guys! My mom just called and mentioned that she was planning to get some extra stuff at the store today, fill her gas tank, and get some $$$ out just incase they do get through to the financial institutions like they had planned. Are you do anything extra to prepare? Just wondering!

Nothing beyond being more aware of my surroundings. I might take a little cash out of the bank, but that would be about it.

Well, I left for work earlier thinking the traffic at the Lincoln Tunnel would be a mess...but it was fine. Thinking of having a bit more cash on hand.

I'm not doing anything different.

Just allowing a bit more time to get through security at work.

Security at my work today was a nightmare, and I don't even work for a financial institution.

I'm not doing anything differently though.

The main reason I am responding is to tell you how CUTE your little guy is lynette! :)

I'm not, but then, I don't really think Boston is a prime target.

And yes, your little guy is soooo cute!!

Nothing.

I was at Hallmark yesterday and the owner of the shop told a customer that "she had quite a collection of items" (the woman was buying quite a bit of stuff). The woman replied that if we are possibly going to be attacked by terrorists, then she was going to "Buy, buy, buy"!

Funny...I work for a Financial institution named in the news (albeit a different branch) and security was rather low. I mean, there were cops roaming around...but no ID badges were being checked.

I'm not worried though...

No I got prepared for the last alert with duct tape and plastic and supplies. Went through the supplies. I may just keep my gas tank at 1/2 full instead of on fumes before I fill it. Between my three kids we've got plenty of cash. My DD pulled out her wallet on vacation and had $260 in it. I was like WHaaaaaaat??!!!

No, nothing, other than keep my eye's & ears open. (I've been doing that since 9/11.)

I live just north of NYC and my dh spends most of his waking hours in mid-town. I'm hoping "they" won't "take down" a musuem.....

DD and I will be in the city next weekend for a show, as planned.

Not doing anything different here.

We've all been talking here and we think it's more smoke (we're all hoping) being blown. If they're gonna get us, it will be when we have our pants down again.

I understand that those who called all the press conferences are dammed if they do and dammed if they don't. Somehow it seems where I am, most wish they didn't. It also seems as if most are blowing this off due to the fact that they have cried that "sky is falling" too many times already.

I hadn't thought about it. I might grab a few extra cases of bottled water. Might be a good idea to get the flashlights working.

At a Hallmark shop? So if we are attacked ...is she planning on sending the terrorists heartwarming greeting cards?

We live and work in Manhattan..so since 9/11 and last year's power outage we have prepared by keeping extra cash handy as well as pre-paid telephone cards and pre-paid Metro-Cards ( for city bus and subway) and definately keeping an extra pair of comfortable sneakers and change of clothes at work (bright colors in case its dark outside). We also have a portable transistor radio ready with batteries. We also have an emergency plan to meet at a specific location in Central Park since its open space and probably one of the least likely terrorists targers in NYC. Otherwise, we are pretty cool people here in NYC and bounce back quickly. We are accustomed to the heavy Police/Security presence and hope for the best. I guess , in our hearts we know one day something terrible will happen here again but we can't allow ourselves to worry too much over it. So we just go on with our lives . Today, the Police/Security presence is rather large and obvious. Don't forget the flashlight, extra batteries and and extra bulb ( they always seem to fail when we need them most). Also, very important, have a easy to get at list of every important telephone number to take with you in an emergency. Beyond that, we just walk tall in NYC and no one will make us cower before them.

KevinNYC, I keep meaning to bring comfy clothes to work after having to sleep in a skirt on the floor during the blackout...thanks for the reminder.

luvwinnie..I think the blackout taught us more to be prepared and have a plan..I remember walking in Manhattan and some shoe stores were giving out free sneakers to women who only had high heel shoes on. That was some night back then , wasn't it? But, true to form, New Yorkers rose to the occassion and helped each other. Even the homeless people were standing in street intersections helping to direct traffic since all the traffic lights were out. Sometimes, its terrible events that prove that people are so good and can work together so well when its necessary. Too bad that when the lights come back on we tend to forget just how great a people we really are and what potential we truly have.
