Are you avoiding peanut butter?

Like others, I am not going to buy anything peanut butter flavored and I am definitely a little nervous that my jar of peanut butter is almost out..ugh! I do need to buy another jar today, I really can't go without it, my kids eat a LOT of peanut butter. It does sound like jarred PB is safe though.

Just bought two new jars of Skippy yesterday because they were on sale at the local grocery store. I have peanut butter on my toast a few mornings a week and DD eats it at lunch time once or twice a week. Don't plan on starting to avoid it.

I do carry peanut butter crackers for when I have a low (diabetic) and noticed that several brands have been removed from the shelf at the grocery store. I have several packages from my last Disney trip (in December) so they should have this cleared up by the time I need to re-stock!

Not avoiding jarred peanut butter here. I eat about 1 spoonful a day straight from the jar for a snack. I'm a PB freak. I will heed the advice about PB in snack cakes, crackers, cookies, etc and steer clear of them, but I've been steering clear of them anyway since I started working out every day and losing weight.

Not avoiding PB here. I just had PB sandwich for breakfast.

I had this conversation with my 88 yr old grandmother yesterday. She loves her Jif on crackers-eats a few every day. As others are saying, the jars are fine! We aren't eating anything premade with pb right now, but my Jif doesn't scare me at all.

They're probably going to find out next month that it was something else completely and it had nothing to do with the peanut butter. Like the whole tomato scare and it ended up being the jalapeno's. :rotfl2:

Sorry I just think it's way too hard to take 400 people and have them remember everything they ate for the last week and try to figure out what 1 thing they had in common that was tainted. I can't remember what I had for dinner last night.

What about peanut butter cups? I buy a pack of Reeses now and then at the Wal-Mart checkout.

A doctor on fox news channel said
not to eat anything with peanut
butter in it and not peanut butter
itself either until the FDA gives a go
ahead that its safe to eat. I for one
will do just that, not worth getting
sick!!

That's funny. The one I saw on Fox news the other day said jars of pb were fine. That is also what I've seen on the other networks and online.

This is why this stuff can make
ya NUTS..all the conflicting
info. This doc, said NO to the
jar stuff too, his words were
"its not worth taking the risk"!!!

Thanks! Its only an occasional pack at the check out but nice to know.

Jarred pb is fine. :)

And no, we aren't avoiding pb. The only thing I buy with pb in it is natural peanut butter...no crackers, cookies, ice cream, etc.

And just FYI, you can get salmonella from almost anything you eat, regardless of where it's prepared (home or in a factory).

I don't quite get all the hysteria about peanut butter, but whatever. :confused3

I wouldn't call it "hysteria" - but for those with a compromised immune system - or those who have been hospitalized in the past due to the extremely painful and horribly unpleasant effects of food poisoning - it only makes sense that they would be a little more careful until this particular situation has been resolved..

I've been down that road several times - and have no desire to tempt fate again..:scared:
