Are you a Disney Snob?

Of all the snobs in the world, Disney Snobs are the best and I'm proud to be one, too. Now, if there just more of us, the world might be a better place...

I feel like I am on To Tell the Truth. No, my name is Debbie and I AM a Disney Snob. People always ask, and where are you going on vacation? And I also say, is there anywhere else (WDW)? I always say please and thank you too.

Me neither, Hes, if we're using Webster's definition. But I liked Andrew's definition (except for the bathing suit and bikini top part cuz that doesn't bother me at all).

Hey,
Thanks to all who have posted on this. I know that the term is one that has so many bad connotations, but I can't think of a a more appropriate one. "Chauvanist" is good, but the majority of people only think that word has one meaning, so I decided to go with 'snob'. I think it also conveys a sense that I'm proud of what Walt Disney & Co. have created from the various parks, to the media empire and to the enormous amount of goodwill that the company carries in its name alone. I greatly respect any person or organization who can do that and as such I want others to recognize their efforts. I want to see them succeed, too, and when people litter or act rudely and uncivilized, I feel like it's an afront to the sensibilities of the millions of people who share my passion for Disney.
All of us play nice, it's just those few who seem to stick out and threaten to disturb our enjoyment of the magic. Squealing wet kiddies running through the GF's sumptuous lobby, thoughtless littering and pushy folks in line remind me of all the rudeness in the world that I want to escape by going to Disney. These people aren't bad people, but I sometimes feel that because I frown on such actions, I must somehow be the bad guy- because I cherish the institution so much, I must be missing the obvious point that "hey, it's just a kids' amusement-park."
Well, I refuse to give into that mentaility, and thusly I will always do my best to preserve and share in the magic as long as my body can get us down to where it all lives.

Best regards,
Andrew

There are alot worse things to be than a Disney Snob! :)

How can you NOT thank the bus driver?

Nice post, Andrew!

I'll see you at the end of the aisle. :)

LOL, Andrew, great ones.

Another for me....the one place I do not mind hearing something repeated in Spanish, the monorail. :)

Also, welcome to the CB.

Thanks for the laugh Andrew! I'm guilty of more than one of those! ;)

I am GoofyDisney and I'm a snob.

Follow me here....

Does anyone else feel like, that because we have more knowledge (Disboards) or more appreciation (Disney fanatics) or whatever you want to say, that it is our DUTY as "Disney snobs" to do the things that Andrew mentioned.

It is our obligation to Walt. But also, our duty to others by being a good example. Through our actions, we help those poor, lost souls who are simply "just visiting" WDW or DL . It is our duty to teach them and train them and to help them grow into Disney Snobs in their own right.

An example of this can best be viewed by watching a Disney Snob share valuable information with those mentioned above while they are standing in line or on a bus. Whether sharing info about Pin trading rules with novices or the fastest route to the Baby Care center from Toon Town, a Disney Snob is always there to lend an unsolicited hand to an unsuspecting guest.

It is our job, the job of those who know better, to behave better, to thank those who don't often get thanked, to obey and behave, to talk to the CMs, etc.

It is not snobbery for the sake of snobbery, but snobbery for the sake of being a part of creating the illusion that these are the happiest places on earth. We join together, with Walt, to help perpetuate this fantasy.

Anyone else feel this obligation when being a Disney snob?

Oh yeah. I'm a Disney snob. I cringe every time I hear some poor person in the parks refer to Splash Mountain as "the log ride" or when I hear someone talking about how they went to Disneyland when they were on vacation in Florida!

Yup me too. But I want to apologize before we go in October because I suspect one of my kids will be running through GF with there bathing suits on. But not on purpose. I always thank the bus drivers especially now because my kid takes the special ed van to school. And I never whine if the bus lift is taking a few extra minutes to load an ECV or wheelchair on the bus. (You should read the thread we have going over on the Disabilities board about that:) )

We do it because Disney's magic transcends all of us, not because we transcend the place. The word 'snob' here is not meant as a pejorative term, more similar to the word "chauvinist" which really just means one who is devout to a specific cause or belief (despite how most people use it).
I don't think Disney Snobs are malevolent, merely fervent followers of the (as GoofeyDisney put it) illusion.

a Snob!;) I visit at least 2-3 times a year, and I USE the Trash Recepticals, including picking up trash around them, if there is, and THANK the Bus drivers, and CM's who give me info, should I need it, which is rare.;) Oh, and I give out info when needed, and correct those that need it, as in being mis-informed about rides, etc.:o

I like to think of myself as a Disney connoisseur :)

DISNEY snobs aren't quite as RIGHTEOUS as JIMMY SWAGGART,.....................but they're close:( :( :( :( :( ...........

I am tooooooooo busy enjoying my vacation to worry about what anyone else is doing or saying! :p :p I always move down to the end of the row, I always return my 3D glasses and I always thank anyone who has helped me, but not because I'm a Disney snob, but because I think it's the right thing to do. NO! I am not a Disney snob. :p :p

I'm not sure if you're a newly wed now or if your wedding is just around the corner, but Congratulations and Best Wishes. :) :)
