Are you a bone marrow donor?

I signed up a long time ago when they were having a bone marrow drive in my area (years and years ago). I have never been called to donate, but if they found someone I could help I would do it in a heartbeat.
I just wonder if a lot of people are or not.

I am not that religious but God Bless you. What a wonderful thing.

I am ashamed to say I am not a donor. My brother had a bone marrow transplant 20 years ago.

You have inspired me to look into becoming one in my area.

I have been registered for about 10 years, and I would not hesitate to actually donate if called.

I'm registered, but I would have to think about donating if I was ever deemed a match.

I went to a drive for a local man who was in need of a transplant. They have my info on file for future matches and I would do it with no questions asked.

This is a great thread to bump up. If people can get on the registry to donate marrow, you can save somebody's life! What a wonderful thing to be able to do. :goodvibes

I have been on the registry for 8 years now. I would not hesitate to follow through and take the next steps if I were a match for someone.

I became registered 8 years ago when there was a bone marrow drive for a little girl. I'd donate if asked.

I was on it for over 10 years, from about 1990 until a few years ago. I am no longer eligible due to my own medical conditions.

when I was active, I received a callback once, for further tissue typing (just a small blood draw). I was told that only 2% of callbacks qualify to become donors, and I ended up in the 98% for that particular patient.

I've been on the list for about11 years. I would do it in a heartbeat and be honored to.

I'm not healthy enough, but my dad donated bone marrow. He actually did it twice for the same recipient. Some emergency treatment the recipient had to have wiped out the cells the first time.

I have been registered for about 10 years. One of my closest friends was diagnosed with adult onset leukemia, and she received a successful bone marrow transplant from her brother. Sadly:sad1: she died of pneumonia almost a year later. I hope that someday I can help someone, and it will be because of Ann that I was motivated to do it.

I am on the national registry but have never been called. I would donate in a heartbeat if I was a match for someone.

I actually just registered on Saturday during a drive for a baby with a rare disorder. Now that I will be in the national registry, I would donate in a heartbeat. It would be an honor.

Count me among those who are registered but never been called.

I have been on the registry for about 15 years. I signed up during a drive for a young girl in a nearby town. My niece had just been diagnosed with leukemia a couple of months earlier and I knew that if she had needed a transplant I would want someone to donate for her. Other than siblings, most family members are not usually matches. Fortunately, she never needed a transplant and is a healthy, 22 year old nursing student!

I was called a couple of years ago as a possible match, I agreed to be tested, and then never heard back. I would have gratefully donated. A really good friend of mine was a donor. She said other than her son, it was the best experience of her life.

I registered about 9 years ago, at a drive at work. Apparently they need lots of Hispanic donors because the type is harder to match. Like others have said, I know two people (my cousin and a coworker) whose lives have been saved by this procedure, so I would be happy to be called.

On behalf of families who have needed bone marrow we thank you all. Dsil is awaiting a bone marrow transplant at this time. She was lucky and had one sibling out of 6 that they consider a match. There is always the possibility that it might not work and it is nice to know there are people out there with the compassion you all have. Thank you
