My 5 year old has asked me to do this this year, and I hate to say no, but personally, I'm just not fond of the whole thing, and it is quite expensive.

Trust me, the child has princess dresses up the ying yang to wear and we have done other things. I just personally don't care for the BBB look on my child.

Please, if you do the BBB, it's not an afront to anyone elses adorable child. Dh and I as parents just prefer not to indulge in this particular activity. Children have had magical times at Disney long before BBB and I just think it's one more HUGE $$$ making thing for them and we don't want our daughter made up at such a young age.

Normally, I'm pretty confident in this..but I guess I feel under this pressure because it seems like "everyone is doing it".

Usually we make a huge deal of dressing her up in our room and I put a little lip gloss and a few sparkles.

I actually don't believe dd would like it as much as she thinks she would as she HATES having her hair done tight in any way. I mean HATES it.

I guess it would be nice to know I'm not alone.

It will be my kids 1st trip this coming Feb and we are not planning BBB. My DD loves the princess thing, getting her nails done, would let you do her hair for hours, etc, but I can't justify the expense of something like BBB when we already do this kind of stuff at home.

Sure we'll bring down some polish, glitter, and her mini tiara to wear at the parks, but she'll be getting our version of the tamed down BBB look if she requests it while there.

In other words, your not alone! :thumbsup2

We just got back last night and did not do it. And I can't quantify this with sales numbers or anything, but I saw WAAAAY less little girls who had obviously been to BBB this trip than our previous few. I wonder if the economy is taking a toll on this one.

This detail may interest you. I saw a little girl who had hair with loads of sparkles in it and a few painted streaks. Her mom said they did it at the Barber Shop on Main St. in MK for only $7. I don't believe they actually styled the hair...just sparkled it up. I would have totally done that had I know about it sooner! Next trip...

It's not for us, but I have no problem with families that are really excited and looking forward to it.

It's all discretionary income (I hope!) however you want to spend it in Disney is cool with me...

We like to do the segway tours :thumbsup2

My younger DD has no interest (she's almost 7 and a tomboy).... my DD who just turned 9 looked longingly a the little girls all done up last year and I considered it for this past trip, but I couldn't justify the cost when we were there in the heat of the summer and I knew she's want to swim in the afternoon/evening.... once my DD found out that they plaster your hair with hairspray, she no longer had the desire :rotfl: :rotfl:

We are on a much tighter budget this trip, due to other wonderful celebrations we had this year, and BBB is just not possible, as the youngest wants to do everything her sisters do now! I would rather do something else with that money and they are not requesting it! :goodvibes

As for the barber shop option, good to know!!! Might take them there for that this time around, or bring my own stuff. FYI, our local dollar store has Halloween stuff out already, and that includes the spray glitter for hair and the 'fake' hair pieces that you can clip on the child's hair. Another option.

From past experience, we went in 2007 and took DDs who were 6 and 4 at the time. They didn't like the glittery stars in the nailpolish it made their nails hurt, who knew? :confused3 and my oldest DD hated that they were pulling her hair with the brush. She was in tears as her scalp is sensitive, not a good look for pics. :sad1: Yes, they looked adorable, but I think I can accomplish the same look myself, plus we kept the tiaras/sashes so if they want to wear them that would be great! Or maybe a visit to the barber shop is due...

We haven't and are not doing it. I just can't justify the expense. When we were there last summer my girls didn't even notice the other little girls.

I have nothing against those who do, and I don't want to start a debate, but I really do not like the finished product. I love the little girls in princess dresses, sneakers, no makeup, and cute ponytails. I just think they look so much sweeter!!!

I am right there with ya ;) When we were at Disney in Dec we were shocked at how some of the little girls that had been to BBB looked. Let's just say they didn't look like princesses.

I wanted to do BBB this trip with my DD10 becuase last year she didn't want to, but this year she did. But I couldn't get an appointment when we would want to go. So instead, the day before we left to go, I took her to the local nail shop, let her pick out a color (she picked Lime Green!) and we both had our nails painted to match. It was her first manicure and she loved it! It is a tradition we will now continue for every trip and it was nice and cheap and we got to share a special time together doing something girly. I told her I tried to get her to BBB but she told me this was just as good! Oh...we also had mickey stickers on our nails that they clear coated over.

We don't do it either and really it is just our personal choice. I don't believe in the whole make up thing for children, but I am not condemming those who are okay with it. Last year, I put her hair into a tight bun, put a crown on her and her pricness dress and she looked much like all the other girls. Plus, my dd doesn't like stuff in her hair.

We're not doing it. DD is tender-headed, and I've heard they're a bit rough when they pull the hair tight. I'm sure she'd cry and it would ruin the day! Plus, I don't want her to be uncomfortable or get a headache all day! I have ordered her a new princess dress off ebay and got a cheap tiara. I'll put up her hair with the gentle mommy touch and slather on some gel! If I decide to let her have lip gloss, she'll really think she's hot stuff!:rotfl:

We didn't do it either with dd(then 6). We had adr's at CRT, and I surprised DD with a cinderella dress I had gotten from disney store online, we got her changed in the bathroom before, had breakfast and she changed back into regular clothes afterward. I did her hair in a smooth bun and she had a tiara we got for her. Like others mentioned, she doesn't like her hair being pulled and scraped up so I think she was happier with this.

We never did it, and I have a DD who would have loved it. I think she is pretty much out of the princess phase so I guess we never will. My DD noticed the other girls at the princess meals, but she thought, and of course she was right!!, that she looked just as good with just her dress and some lip gloss.

Don't worry about what other people are doing. According to my DD 7 she is the only one who doesn't watch Hannah Montana. I just say, "Oh well, you are busy with other fun stuff."

We don't do it, either. I can't imagine spending that kind of money, plus I'm kind of philosophically opposed to tiny children wearing makeup and hairspray and glitter.

Frankly, I don't let my kid do the whole "I'm a princess" thing at all. Although I let her watch some of the movies and I will buy her a few dolls/books/stickers with the princesses, I won't buy the dress-up clothes. It's my little way of rebelling against the persistent marketing to little girls. DD has a ton of very fancy hand-me-down dresses from her cousin, and she uses those for dress-up instead.

We've never done it. But then again, I've never stayed at anything but a Value....so it's obvious that my idea of vacation is different than others', which is fine - different choices for different families.

Just like I can't see spending $$$$$ more to be in a more expensive hotel, I can't see spending $$ more to have dd dressed like that.

We haven't done it and have no intentions of doing it. However, I will put DD's hair up in a bun everyday of our trip if she'll let me and she usually wants glitter spray too. Her hair is so long that a bun is perfect to keep it up and out of her face. If not a bun she usually gets french braids with a touch of glitter on those. I might let her have some lipgloss to complete the look....but this is usually with her shorts and tennis shoes :rotfl: I don't have a problem with it - I just don't see the expense when I can do it myself and I don't care if she washes it out or goes swimming.

I personally could not justify the cost, thankfully my daughter is way past the age for doing things like BBB,(now 21 yrs old) I also have thought it must be uncomfortable for the little ones walking around all dolled up like that.

I think if my daughter were youner I would take a costume from home and do my daughters hair and nails myself if she wanted to dress up like that for a Princess meal or something. For my daughter I can guarantee I would have had to bring clothes for her to change into after awhile as she would have been complaining to get out of the dress.:rotfl:

Yes, they do look cute, but really how long before it gets to be a mess in the parks.

I think the idea at the barber shop a good one!

While my daughters are still young, I just don't think that I could ever justify spending that much money!

I know how to put hair in a bun, and fix a tiara. I think most moms can do it. And, I can also apply makeup and nailpolish. To me, it's not even remotely worth the $ that they charge.

I'm so glad there are more like me. MIL has conference at Swan and said that BBB was one of the things they told her about. She thought it was a great idea for DD5 and niece4. She was taken aback when I said I'm won't take DD to it. I don't think she knew exactly what it entailed. I said I would rather go to the Norway for the Princess meal.
