Are we still going to be able to have a Half Marathon GKTW team this year?

I was just wondering. I am getting back into walking/running and wanted to see if those of us that were interested could still sign up for the half?
 
I've been sitting on pins and needles on this one. I already have the trip booked, but am still waiting to sign up for the half through the Podcast Team.
 
I'm right there with you. I am certain Kathy is keeping on Disney and hammering out the details.
 
Marathon weekend is only 3 months and 3 weeks away (iPhone Ticker Factory app says so;))

And although I have already registered for the half, I am holding out on booking a room at one of the Disney resorts in hopes that Kathy & team will be able to get a better (group) rate for those of us that are going to be there.

But I'm getting anxious, time is slipping away and what happens if we wait to long and miss the opportunity to book at our favorite value resort & then something falls through with the DIS being able to procure group space?

What would you do?
 

I was getting nervous, too. I finally booked a studio at SSR using our DVC points. I was hoping to gook through DU and save the points, but it is getting too close for comfort.

I know some of you are still waiting to hear from us on this and I am sorry.

We ran into huge issues with Disney groups. We finally got all the specifics of the contract worked out about 2 weeks ago and was about to pay a huge deposit when I looked at the contract and it said we had 10 days to sell our entire allottment or lose our deposit.

Of course I knew that wasn't enough time so back to the drawing board we went.

In the meantime things are crazy here (too many personal issues to mention, and now 2011 cruises were just announced) so I haven't had time to work on the contract anymore with Disney.

If I can find a few hours one day next week I will work on this again.

In the meantime I suggest that if you definately are planning on doing the marathon to book a room to make sure you have it.

If you book just a room and not a package you have until 5 days before arrival to cancel and get your money back - this way if we are able to pull off some group space you can cancel and book into our group if you want. At least you would know you had a room.

Again, I am very sorry about this.

I doubt we will be working with Disney groups much in the future - just too frustrating.

P.S. I want to make sure you all know Kathy has nothing to do with the delays. She worked very hard to try to get the contract earlier but she ran into huge road blocks. This last road block is my fault.

Sounds like you need a 3 week vaction when Pete and Walter get back... I cannot iminage how cary this last few weeks have been for you!! THanks for holding down the fort John!!
 
Just wanted to give Kathy my thanks for all her hard work on this. I know Disney really drug their feet and made things really difficult. Thanks for all your effort on this.

Hang in there John, best of luck with all of the things you have going on. Thanks for the support with the marathon project too.

Yep.

When DAP fell through...I decided I must take a solo trip...and got the marathon fever....

So...

Since this didn't work out...I am going to join Team in Training and see if can train and raise the money to go with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. :thumbsup2

I have some homework to do!! :)
 
First and foremost, Kathy and John, thank you for all the work that went into this. I cannot imagine the detail and minutiae that contracts must entail.

That said, John, if you do re-visit this next week, can you please update us? I still have hope that all the pieces will miraculously fall into place, but life and circumstances happen. Not living on the East coast, there has to be a point of no return for this and that date is pretty well upon us.

My backup plan is to run the Princess 1/2 in March. If this is indeed the case, will DU be able to book the trip? I see that there are specific hotels that are being used for race day transportation and am not sure if this is a thing that has to be done thru Disney.

Congratulations for signing up for Team in Training. They are a great charity, and their runners look like they are having so much fun during the WDW Marathon. Maybe I'll see you down there for the marathon weekend... :confused3
 
Thanks for all your hard work on this. Do I understand correctly that we won't be able to sign up under the Disboard Team, or is that still a possiblity.
I have our whole trip booked....flights, DVC rooms, etc., but I didn't sign up for the half marathon because I was waiting for the Disboard Team.

Yesterday, actually!

I was going to PM you.

I got the flu last week and missed a lot of work. So...I have only a few days left for the rest of the year. I have another trip planned with a family and going on that trip (we will actually be there by December 15th)...but I am missing DAP.

So...I am also missing GKTW. :( Which is so, so sad!!

I will be at GKTW later that week...but not for DAP weekend.

I will still coordinate transportation on that thread, though! :thumbsup2

I know you guys will take LOTS of pictures!

And I will send you links for any of our MAW families that will be there that morning so they can come say hi!
