Are US restaurants catering to our obesity problems!

Another consideration is that we're predisposed to over-eat. Hundreds of thousands of years of evolution have left the people that can pack on the most weight, therefore surviving famines.

Restaurants take advantage of our nature by providing huge amounts of cheap things like pasta. It makes sense to want to get as much food as we can for the money we're spending.

I agree that it's going to take education. Understanding why we do what we do and why *restaurants* do what *they* do will help us to feel a little more in control and aid us in making better choices.

Oh, and I like my free refills. Unsweeted tea, please. :thumbsup2

One thing I found very interesting. My grandmother just gave my mom some china that belonged to her grandmother. This china was probably made around the turn of the century.

The plates were so tiny. I was so surprised. My mom and I had just been talking about a weight loss tip we'd heard of using smaller plates to trick your mind into thinking you're getting more food and she showed me those older plates. What a difference in size compared to today's giant sized dishes!!

My mom's everyday dishes set (Corelle, I think) came with dinner plates and the smaller plates-what are those called??? Salad plates? Anyway, the antique dinner plates were just a little bit bigger than my mom's everyday "salad plates." Nowhere near the size of the Corelle dinner sized plates.

Maybe there IS something to that using smaller plates thing. Apparently they used smaller plates a hundred years ago.
