Are umbrellas allowed in the parks?

I am also a big fan of umbrella use, I am not talking about the big golf size umbrellas, but a small personal size umbrella works the best for me.

My DH and DD are big poncho fans and do not like using an umbrella, so everyone has their own personal taste on what works the best for them.

I am very well aware of where my umbrella is in relation to other people, just like I do not stop in the middle of Main St. for no reason either. There is some theme park etiquette that needs to be followed by all.

Good point. The umbrellas we use are quite small. Barely big enough to keep our heads and bodies dry. They do as well as a poncho and aren't so big that they are a significant danger to others since they barely extend outside our own personal space circle

I remember one trip we saw someone walking around with an umbrella that was so big I asked DH if they brought a patio umbrella with them! The thing was huge!

They are allowed, but please, please be careful. We almost lost an eye due to one last month.

We bring umbrellas. Ours fold up small (my husband carries his in the big leg pocket on his khaki shorts) and are basically just large enough for one person.

We've been grateful for them on multiple occasions, and at least once we were able to help out others, too. A sudden downpour had trapped a bunch of us under a small canopy. The wind was pushing the rain in from the sides and a little girl next to me was getting upset. So, we opened our umbrellas, along with one other guy, and we put them together to shield us all from the rain. I also gave her a pin. Her mother thanked us profusely!

If it happens to be drizzling or raining during a fireworks show or parade please be mindful of those behind you. There are times it is hard enough to see but if you are stuck behind an umbrella it becomes impossible. Last July we did the plaza garden viewing dessert party. I scheduled it for our last day which was also my birthday. I am not quite 5 ft tall so I THOUGHT it would help me see the castle projection show. I knew there was no chance if I had to stand in a crowd. Well it was drizzling and a lady decided to open her umbrella. I tried to move out from behind her. Fate was not kind to me that night. Every time I moved - so do she. Right in front of me blocking my view. I realize it was not intentional. She was oblivious. As the show started I was able to move once again and although I didn't get a great view it was OK. So please if you are part of the umbrella crowd - be mindful of those around you.

I have learned from theater going here in NYC to advocate for myself. If someone has a large hat on or has sunglasses propped on their head that is impeding my view, I'll politely ask them to remove it. If someone leans forward in a mezzanine seat - which blocks the view of the people behind even with the rake of the mezzanine - I will politely ask them to please sit back in their seat. Most of the time no one has an issue with it - they simply didn't realize that they were blocking and/or causing a glare.

In this case, I would have politely asked the lady if she would mind picking a spot and staying there OR put the umbrella down. She may have had no clue you were moving to see around her.

We visit in July a lot and have always used ponchos. I really hate taking them off and on and finally bought an umbrella one day in the park. What a difference!!

Instead of being all sweaty and carrying around a wet poncho, I would just whip out my umbrella whenever I needed it.

My husband and I both did this while the kids wore ponchos. We always had ponchos available in case of really bad rain or if it was too crowded to walk around with an umbrella, but most of the time it was not a problem. We made sure to watch out for others though.

It is curious that selfie sticks are banned but umbrellas are not. Umbrellas would seem to pose the same type of risks that selfie sticks do.

Ppl aren’t as inclined to stick them in the air on a ride. The point of selfie sticks is to do that. If it became a problem of ppl sticking umbrellas in the air, I think they would ban them.

Museums often have a policy of no selfie sticks inside the museum, but outside, no problem.

Oh I see. Maybe that’s not the reason. IDK. But, it could also be that the hazard is that great on ride?

They tried that. People didn't listen so they had to ban them totally. And yes the only reason the sticks are banned is due to ride safety. Seeing how you don't have anyone open an umbrella on a ride they haven't had a reason to ban them.

Mini Umbrella's most of the time unless it's really heavy rain/wind. Then we switch to ponchos. During a couple of tropical storms we've used both at the same time. But those days you generally get soaked no matter what. Doesn't matter, it's all fun!

We head down tomorrow and there are a couple of days with about a 50% chance of rain. I know that can change quickly and we have our poncho's packed, but I can't remember if umbrellas are banned are not.

I love my umbrella. I suffer with heat so this saves me. Plus it makes everyone walk around me. always use an umbrella.

I like to use an umbrella and a raincoat because getting wet ruins my day. I’m like one of those pictures of the cranky cat in the bathtub.

We use them if it is really raining hard. Hate the plastic ponchos....they get so hot.
DH will wear a ball cap. I also hate hats
I will just use my hood if wearing my raincoat, but if it is raining hard I also use an umbrella.
I store it in my bag ......in a ziplock baggie for when it goes back in wet

I like a North Face rain jacket for everything except a major downpour, if there is a downpour a small umbrella is a perfect add. As for the difference with selfie sticks; umbrellas only come out if it is raining fairly hard, they aren't everywhere all the time. Also, a person with an umbrella aware of their surroundings holds it right over their heads, a person with a selfie stick has to stick it out perpendicular to themselves which presents the danger and tends to enter other people's territory... plus they are just downright annoying/distracting. lol
