I was at the Disney store this past weekend and a cast member told me she heard that the parks are getting away from pins. Has anyone seen a decline in pins at the parks?

I just spent alot of money buying pins on ebay some of which I want to trade. I will be disappointed if this rumor is true.

please. i wish.

they make a pin to celebrate the nanosecond of the day. pins are just as strong as ever.

I thought Disney Store was no longer owned by Disney...so I'd think, if that were the case, that the employees wouldn't have accurate info about the parks.

What I know - Pin trading is alive and thriving - just look at the new releases! Not to mention the pin trading nights, online community full of pin folks, the Disneyland pin event in June that sold out it's top two tiers of reservations, and the pin event in September that hasn't even opened up registration yet.

I'm sure the person was mis-informed.

After an evening reading DISboards, I'll bet YOU know more about what's going on in the Disney theme parks than an employee of a Disney store.

Pins are as strong as ever. God knows you can't stand on any square inch of outdoor space in a Disney theme park without seeing a shop, cart or kiosk that sells pins.

I don't think that'¨s true at all. Disney make so much money on the pins, so that would stupid of them...

 OK...I read this board and I can tell you that although the stores are no longer 'owned' by Disney, we NEVER give out non-accurate information. DO I share rumors that I hear on the these boards and others with the guests, absolutely! But to say that I don't know anything about Disney because we're not owned by Disney anymore is very hurtful. I love Disney and I love my Disney Store and it makes me sad when fellow Disney fans say things like that about my fellow CM. Just like in any business, some people know what's going on and others don't...it's the same with the stores...but don't just assume that we don't know anything because we're owned by The Children's Place...we're still Disney, regardless of who signs our paychecks.

Sorry, but that really hit a nerve.

So, are you saying that pin trading is leaving Disney then? I believe that the CM in question does not have accurate information. However, it is important not to generalize. I'm sure that the majority of the Disney Store employees do have accurate information and love Disney. I'm sure once in a while there will be someone employed who does not. To be fair, I would recommend people not generalize but I would also recommend not taking offense to it either.

I hope so! I think they really hurt the feel of each land at MK. Why even dress the CMs in semi-colonial garb if you're going to strap this huge modern tacky thing around their neck? I don't get it.

To clarify, I did not say they "don't know anything"...I said they ma y not have "accurate information". Even the CM's in WDW don't always have accurate information. Any piece of information you are given, by anyone, should always be taken with a grain of salt (IMHO) until verified.

IMHO. And for the record, you've hit a nerve too. I try very hard to not be offensive to folks. I just happen to know that pin trading is NOT going away- at least not soon. Disney makes a lot of money on pins. And they are, after all, a business. Again, IMHO.

To the OP: The employee you spoke with may have meant that the Disney Store is moving away from selling pins. I don't know about everyone else's expereinces but it has been harder and harder to find pins at my local Disney Store (They have currently 1 pin, a Peter pan one that I think they are carrying simply becase the movie was just rereleased). I am not claiming to know if this is true, just a thought based on my expereinces.

I certainly didn't mean to be disrespectful or hurtful in any way, and I'm sorry if you took it that way.

I stand by what I said, but let me explain a little further ....

Let's say someone spends an hour a night reading DISboards. I mean no disrespect, but are you telling me that Disney Store employees receive one hour per day of briefing on the latest goings-on in the theme parks? This has nothing to do with love for all things Disney, dedication to one's job, or intelligence. It has to do with information flow and access to information.

Seriously, let's say you weren't a Disney Store employee. Let's say you're going to WDW in 2 months and want to know what rides/attractions are planned to be dark for refurbishment during your stay. Would you ask a Disney Store employee in the Lehigh Valley Mall or the Mall of America, or would you post a question on the DISboards???

I'm sorry, but I was hurt by some of the posts. I'm also sorry if I offended anybody. I can tell you that I also heard that Disney was doing away with pin trading. I didn't hear that at work, I heard it on a board (I can't remember what board though). It's a common misconception that TDS CMs aren't as 'with it' with Disney information because we're owned by the Children's Place. Yes, being a big-time Disney fan, of course I would ask on a message board rather than at my local Disney Store, but I pride myself in knowing that I can provide up to date information to the guests who come into my store.

I know that nobody meant to strike a nerve with anybody by posting on this thread and I'm sorry if I came off harshly by writing what I did, if I said I wasn't, I'd be lying. It was more of a vent than anything...:)

All's good here. Thanks for your reply again! I can understand why folks would assume pin trading is going away with the suspension of pin trading nights at WDW for a few months while the Contemporary was remodeled, and with fewer pin events in WDW...but I can assure you there is a HUGE group of pin traders out there and based on the numbers of pins being released daily, it seems to be staying around. Of course, even Disney can make decisions that don't seem to make sense, so who really knows?

Oh, and I buy Disney Store pins about every two weeks from my local Disney Store. I think the folks that work there are very nice, and helpful with my purchases.

I don't know if the pins are on sale or not, but we're starting a BIG sale tomorrow! You should go check it out if you have a chance! :)
