Are towel animals a thing of the past?

We did not take apart our towel animals. Usually the mousekeeper would use the same animals in different scenes, or she would take them apart and make them into other animals. We just let her be in control. ;)

I have stayed at ASMo, PO, CBR, WL, AKL, and GF. I have only rec'd animals towels at ASMo and that was my very first stay before I ever heard of mousekeeping envelopes! Since then, I always leave mousekeeping envelopes, but never receive animals. I have received a cute think like a flower for my toothbrush.

We never got a towel animal (would LOVE to have seen them) but we have had the plush arranged many of times. That is really one of the best little "perk" for the lack of a better word, about a Disney Resort. We have had them done at ASMu and CR and hopefully they will continue to do so. I can understand the no towel animals because I think that is time consuming and would also depend on which mousekeeper you got, but no arranging of the plush stinks.

That reply was only intended to be seen by the person it was sent to. It did not say everyone on the Internet could be included. Believe me the others are right that Disney has no intention of thousands of people carrying off the towels. Again if this begins to happen you can be assured there will be "no" towel creations ever again.

We were at POR in early August (AB section) and mousekeeping left a washcloth arranged to hold my toothbrush (I had left it in a glass to dry out) and there were two towel animals. My niece left a note thanking them for leaving the animals to keep her favorite teddy bear company while we were gone all day and the next day there were more animals and a heart shaped towel left on the bed. We noticed that the room a coulple of doors down had a similar heart and animals (they left theirs on display in the window, sitting on top of the air conditioning unit), so I assumed our area of the building had a mousekeeper that enjoyed doing this. (We stayed at POR (Mansions section) and saw no evidence of towel animals).

I've stayed on site over 70 times and have yet to get a towel animal, even when DD was young. I've never given it a second thought. I'm sure finding one in my room would put a smile on my face, but never finding one hasn't taken the smile off my face either. :D

I know its not part of their jobs, and if we had never gotten it I wouldn't miss it. I think we only got them our first two times on the Disney grounds, the last two years we have not. One of our most special memories was coming back to our room to find towel animals and DDs stuffed animals wearing our sunglasses on the bed, watching tv on pillows.
Is it just something that isn't done anymore?
weluvpluto,
We have found that it depends on your mousekeeper. We stayed at WDW several times including concierge on a couple of visits and did not receive any towel art. Then, one visit in a regular Polynesian room, we were tagged by the "towel art fairy" :). (My sister's family staying at a different longhouse during the same time didn't get any towel art creations.)
Out of all our visits (I think we are coming up to our 25th or 26th visit in Nov), we have only had towel creatures a couple of times.
When we went to Disneyland and stayed at the Grand Californian, I noticed that one of the guest activities they offered was making towel art creations. (I didn't go to it, but maybe next time :) ). :)

I did let our kids take our first ever towel animals! I admit it! I didn't know it was a big deal. It was 7 years ago on our first onsite stay at CBR. We came back to the room to two adorable washcloth bunnies! Cute pink noses, little ears, fit in the palm of your hand, cute! Anyway my kids wanted them and I figured I could always pay for them. I asked our mousekeeper if I could buy them and she said we could have them. That was the only time we ever took them. After that we have gotten them at every stay. We've been 7 times in the last 3 years and have gotten those cute animals daily. I couldn't imagine taking them anymore. At our last stay at the Poly we had so many that they filled our daybed and even hung from the bed canopies. It looked like a jungle in our room! We had a wildebeest made out of 4 bath towels, a lifesize alligater on the floor, 2 monkeys swinging from the canopies made out of 3 leis and 3 bath towels each. The mouskeeeper just kept making us new ones every day to add to our collection. If we took them, even with WDW permission, we probably would have had 25 bath towels and 50 washclothes! Not something Disney would think of as a gift! LOL!

A few years back we made friends with our Mousekeeper. She was a friendly person and came into our room, sat down and visited. I immediately got up, opened the door and the curtains and gave her a motherly talk on why going into rooms with strangers was not a good idea. Long story short we have become friends and exchange emails and see each other when possible when we go to DW. She has now been promoted to the Guest Service desk. WTG ***!!!!! (decided not to post her name as she is such a sweetheart and I would not want to cause her any problems even accidentally.

Anyway she told me that any comments made by guests are often read at the beginning of shift changes and the comments really help them improve. Having had sisters who worked in motels cleaning rooms I have been told that they have a certain amount of rooms to do each day so I am sure that they make that extra effort for those who appreciate their efforts.

If we got towel animals everyday it would not be quite as magical but then we are not kids and kids need and want the magic everyday. LOL

Terry (skiwee) - We must have had the same mousekeeper at the Poly! Those are the exact animals we had too. :p

Hi, we just got back from POR (Oak Manor) and we got towel animals for the first three days but none after that. We kept them on display as they were really nice. We also got tooth brush holders and flower things for the soap.

It was a nice surprise

Well I missed them on our last trip. We had plenty at our stay at the CBR in 2002 but none when we stayed at the WL or the Contemporary. At least at the Contemporary, the stuffed animals were always arranged in a cute way. I wish they wer done more often, I love to see the kids look of surprise.

We just got back from CBR and had tons of towel animals!! We were always so excited to get back to the room to see what our maid had done. I think it does depend on the mousekeeper, because I would leave thankyou notes for mine, and she wrote a note back saying she would be off for a few days. Those days I did not get any animals and no extra towels or anything. When she came back, so did the towel animals. She also made a hammock for my daughters Ewok and put a Do Not Disturb sign on it. It was so cute!! I did tip well everyday, but I don't think that had anything to do with it. My husband and I did debate over whether to take the animals or not, but I figured if everyone started taking them the powers that be at Disney may put a stop to them if they were losing too many towels. Our whole floor always had the shades up a little and all their towel animals displayed, it was really magical!

We never got towel animals, so I don't understand. Are the towels tied together or glued or what? If you take them home, won't they come undone?
I can't imaging taking the towels home. I can't understand how Disney says the towels are "gifts" to be taken home. That would mean that thousands of towels would be taken!

I did have my little teddy bear placed in different poses by mousekeeping, and that was very cute!

Ours were mostly done with rubberbands. They had little eyes and wings stuck on to them and one of my ducks even had a tiny straw hat. The bigger animals had a cup that the towel was molded around. They really are so cute. We also had a peacock with colored dots for feathers. Our mousekeeper also left stick on flowers on our towels.

We've stayed onsite at WDW 8 times and have never had towel animals. But I'm OK with it. :)

Nope, none at our CR stay 2 yrs ago. I've had them at other hotels & cruises, though (non-Disney).

If I did get them, I wouldn't take them home. A picture is enough of a memory for me. Always get to much junk as it is.

:earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsgirl:

We have always had these special cute animals made by houskeeping. At the end of the visit we (my children) write a thank you note and ask if they may take the animals home. The reply was always yes. I don't believe the towels the hotels purchase are of high quality(with the exception of very few), so they must also be pretty cheap. I think Disney could take the hit of a few hand towels--good PR !

Thanks for all the replies.... I am glad to hear that some housekeepers still do them, If we ever are lucky enough to get them again, we'll be sure to write a nice thank you note :)

I think a lot depends on how busy the housekeeper is on any given day. Personally I could care less about towel animals. If they have a few extra minutes to spare I would rather it be on making up the room. I never tip hoping for towel creations. I tip for the great service housekeeping usually provides.
While they do look neat I personally wouldn't take one. I don't consider a used wash cloth in the form of a flower (and used by a previous guest  ) to be a gift or souvenir I would want.

slightly jaded with towel animals epcotfan? You must not have any children and may be missing some of the Disney magic yourself. It is just a fun silly thing but I guess it is not for everyone.
