Are towel animals a thing of the past?

Does anyone have a picture they could post?:D I would love to see what they look like.

I had a student who worked in Mousekeeping as a manager and asked about these towel animals. She stated that not all mousekeepers know how to do them..it is not part of required training, but many learn for the mousekeeping competition they hold. Most will cover the towel animals when they are training someone but often whether they are left in a room or not has to do with how much time they had to take cleaning the room. The mousekeepers have to have there area cleaned by a certain time and often they need to cover for being short staffed or someone not being in work. So a number of factors go into whether animals are left or not....room condition, how many they have, time table they are on, etc.

I think a lot depends on how busy the housekeeper is on any given day. Personally I could care less about towel animals. If they have a few extra minutes to spare I would rather it be on making up the room. I never tip hoping for towel creations. I tip for the great service housekeeping usually provides.
While they do look neat I personally wouldn't take one. I don't consider a used wash cloth in the form of a flower (and used by a previous guest  ) to be a gift or souvenir I would want.

We don't tip for towel animals either but we get tons of them. We have always tipped housekeepers in all hotels around the world but WDW is the first time we have ever run across towel animals. Since our rooms at WDW have always been spotless due to wonderful mousekeepers I don't imagine that making a towel animal would have a different outcome. If, after making my rooms sparkling clean then by all means I would love a towel animal! LOL!

I got towel animals on my cruise in June 2001, none at the contemporary that same trip, in May at ASMu I had some stuffed animals that were arranged probably 4 out of 8 nights or so.

Just got back from week stay at WL. When we returned to the room after the first full day our youngest daughter's molly doll(From the Big Comfy Couch) was found cradled in a hammock which was hung between the two inside post of the rooms beds. Yesterday, Friday, when we came back to the room in the evening there was a towel duck perched on top of one of the bedpost. We appreciated the effort.:)

On our recent trip we had a few towel creations... the best one was a bunny holding our toothbrushes :)

I better not show my germ phobic DW this thread. She would pass out if the towel animals were holding her toothbrush! :teeth: Each time we leave the room, she must put her toothbrush in her personal "toothbursh case" and hide it from housekeeping. I can see her having nightmares about the "Toothbrush Towel Bunny".

We thought it was a duck, but who knows! Sometimes it's kind of hard to tell just exactly what they are!

Well whatever it was I'm sure it was a nice surprise to come back to the room and see!

We came back from CBR at the end of august....and were delighted to receive towel animals and the little notes asking if we enjoyed our day out.
DD's altho teenagers, thought they were great and wrote little notes of appreciation back.

We had towel animals at AKL last year - not every day....but lots of fans, or pocket towels holding nicely arranged soaps and toiletries. We were very pleased with the staff - our rooms were kept very nice, very clean. We've never had towel animals at WL, including our recent trip in July...sometimes the stuffed animals would be arranged on the bed or holding the remote, that type of thing. POR, ASMu, CR, Poly - nothing. It doesn't really matter to me at all. We think it's cute when it happens...but it's really not something we miss when it's not there. As long as the room is clean, neat and well-tended to - then we are happy.

We had brought a LOT of Disney beanies on our March 2002 trip, as we had read that interesting things could happen with them - of course, with 3 girls, aged 5, 11, and 13 - we bought more throughout the week. The Mousekeeper at the CR was incredible! Every day we came back to a new scenario - they went on a picnic, hiking - watched TV - etc. We also got a couple of small towel animals during the week. My girls thought coming back to the room was the best part of the day. We did use the Mousekeeping envelopes with a tip, and although there are 5 of us, we did keep the room fairly tidy - just a quick makeup of the beds, and a vacuum, as well as the usual bathroom cleaning was needed. Everything was put away - so she didn't have to move things to clean.

When we went back in Dec - 2002 - we stayed at the CR - South Wing this time. No animal arranging, no towel animals, and the cleaning was not nearly as well done as in March. We then moved over to AKL Concierge - no towel animals, but we did receive turndown service every night - my oldest loved the little African proverbs they left with the mints. Not only were our animals not arranged - one day - my daughter's Eeyore from our first trip was missing!!!! I tried to reassure her that it must have gotten mixed up in the bedding. I asked the concierge to check with the laundry - he had me fill out a missing item report. When we returned that evening, there was Jennie's Eeyore, along with an identical (brand new) friend! I think the concierge wanted to replace Jennie's, while the real one had been found in the laundry. WoW!! Great service.

At the All-Stars, we also used our mousekeeping envelopes. The CM happened to be in the room when we returned the first afternoon - and wanted to know if this was truly for her, when we replied yes - her whole face lit up. I don't think that everyone tips! We did receive one towel duck from her during our stay.
