Are they trying to pull a fast one?

I don't think Disney "lied". There are some rooms that are designated room-only, and some that are "package-only" for certain codes, AAA, whatever. When they sell out, that's it. Disney has the tax rate clearly published for all to see. In that instance, I think it's your travel agent at AAA that is not doing their job! I'm not a travel agent, but I can tell you what that tax is and even that it varies depending on where the resort is. So, if I know this, how come your TA doesn't?

The AAA agent was supposedly telling me exactly what the Disney agent told her, which was that Disney doesn't know the exact tax rate for each resort, but that my base room rate had not increased - the taxes were making up the difference. If the Disney agent actually said this, then yes, that is a lie. There's no way someone working for Disney could actually think that their tax rate is close to 50%. If they honestly believe that's possible, they shouldn't be booking rooms for anyone!

I understand that the package rooms are sold out - again, I disagree with the policy requiring a new booking to convert from room-only to a package with tickets, but it is what it is. I can't change that. This in no way affects my excitement about our upcoming vacation.

I just don't like being lied to regarding *why* the room rate was increasing. All they had to do was tell me that I could no longer get the discounted room if I wanted the package. Instead, Disney told my agent that the room rate had not changed - the taxes were making up the huge difference. And that's not the truth.

Sorry you are dealing with all of this frustration and changing stories, OP. ONe thing jumped out at me that I just had to ask though... SS is $424 per night, room only? That is shocking to me- was that for a studio or a multiple bedroom? I can't believe that it is that much more than the Poly rate!!!

Got my confirmation, which stated a rate of $424 per night plus 12.5% tax at SS, and $289 per night plus 12.5% tax at Poly.

We're getting a 2-bedroom villa at SS (splitting it with my parents), so that's why it's more expensive. :goodvibes
