Before Magic Your Way I have bought from the convention site when I've wanted 2 or 3 day hoppers. You usually have to indicate a conference when you purchase the tickets but you're fine once they're in hand because they don't check at the gate (especially because they can be used by family members who might join you and wouldn't have any conference credentials). My guess is they have a list of conferences there and check against the list but do not check if you are registered. I'm in the conference business and I know they really would not have the ability to check if you were registered. The main thing is that you will have only 10-14 days to use the tickets (just as with the MYW tickets w/ expiration) and they often have an expiration for first use (unlike the MYW tickets). So it's only worthwhile if you're looking for a 2-3 day hopper that you're going to fully use during the conference days.
