Are there shady spots at Blizzard Beach?

Hellllllooooo!

After reading off our itinerary tonight for our week-long trip in just 2 weeks, my DH noticed we were spending one of the days at Blizzard Beach, which in our 21 WDW trips in 21 years of marriage, we had never done before.

As he CAN'T take a lot of direct sun, I have heard bits and pieces that this park, because of the all-whiteness of the pavement, has lots of reflection (needing lots of sunblock) -- and very little shade.

Are there shady parts of the park if we get there early? Do you think it wise for him to plan something else, while I take the kids there?

Oh, wise ones -- enlighten me!

We got a great place near the little kids area. There was covered gazebos with picnic tables and chairs. It was great. We got there early and was able to get a whole gazebo thingy for our group.

I spend a lot of time at the waterparks whenever I visit and last year was my time to live at Blizzard Beach.

I found a spot that has a lot of shade near the Avalunch food stand, just before you get to the bathrooms, and a little off to the right. It was very close to the creek that circles the park where people float around in inner tubes. It was also quite close to the ski lift. It had chaise lounges, and was sort of up on a wooden platform. It was very central to just about everything.

If you get there as the park opens, you should be able to snag that spot, or something close by.

Enjoy! Blizzard Beach is a lot of fun. :Pinkbounc

There are many gazebos with picnic tables, but they were all taken when we got there at ~9:30. You will have to get there at the opening time to snag those, I imagine. How old are your kids? Mine are 8 and 5, and they enjoyed the "ski patrol raining" area tremendously. There are several gazebos in the area.

We also found some tree shaded area in front of the wave pool. When facing the wave pool it was on the right side.

There are plenty of spots throughout the park that have covered seating. I can't take the sun for long either so I tend to enter the park, go up around the left side and there are tons of covered seating areas there. There is a small food stand and bathrooms as well so it's a very convenient area to set up for the day. Have fun and enjoy!! One more thing, a plus to the covered areas is that if there is a storm with lightening it's always nice to be under something and away from water!! They use to make everyone go under cover during those storms years ago, but I am not sure if they still do that. GOod luck!

Don't try to nab a spot at the front of the park unless you are right in front of the line. When you line up, go through the Lottawatta Lodge and line up there instead of over by the towel and locker rental area. Then head towards the back. Get a copy of a map before you go and look for the shady areas. We have gotten the exact same spot on our last three or four trips to BB. Go to the left, cut through the smoking area (a square wooden deck area) and immediately down the steps is a row of umbrellas on both sides of the steps. Grab the first one you can. You are not far from the lazy creek or main pool. Slides are only a bit further back.

The BB map also shows several square brown areas. These are covered areas (not umbrellas) with several chairs under the roof. Just don't plan on getting the one nearest to where you are waiting. Head towards the back.

Now, if you don't get there when the park opens, you will need to wait until much later in the day to find a covered area. Go about 3PM and you might be able to find something.
