Are there Resorts you like, but realize you will not stay there because of something?

Contemporary - all time favorite. Have only stayed once and loved it. I love that the rooms are RIGHT there.

Poly - love it.

GF - like it

CBR - didn't care for the way it was soooo spread out-hike to food court
Coronado - same thing. You're either far from the "cool" pool or from food

POFQ-- second favorite. I love the theming and how close the rooms are

PO swamp/bayou - too dark at night - felt like a maze to get to the pool

AKL - never stayed, but visited a friend. I should have left a trail to make it back to the elevator. Also need to wear good walking shoes because it was a hike to his room.

BW - same thing as AKL, but the rooms were gorgeous and the pool is really nice. This is a "make sure you have everything because we are not going back for it" type of hotel. (unless you're lucky to have a room by the elevator).

PC - really enjoyed it and would definitely return

ASR - Wouldn't do sports again and would definitely research what group is going to WDW. Cheerleaders at 6am just aren't my thing when they're in the courtyard by my door. Same with the double dutchers smoking outside my non-smoking room.

The deluxes aside from WL and AKL. I think WL and AKL are overpriced for what you get in the room but could deal with the cost. I have tried so hard and so many times to book and stick with Poly, BW, BC/YC but when all is said and done I can't justify the price. When we go down to the beach we stay in a luxury condo w/ 2 bedrooms, jacuzzi, ocean front balcony, the whole nine yards and the cost is around $200 per night. I can't make myself pay $300 plus for a few inches bigger mattress and a larger room. Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to stay at Poly and I lust over the pictures of the room but at the end of the day I can't do it.

I don't think I could ever justify staying at the Polynesian, its just way too expensive. It would actually be cheaper to go on holiday to Fiji from London for a week than to stay at the Poly!

And the Grand Floridian seems a bit too 'chintzy' for me. Shame, because its in a great location.

I think both WL and AKL are great and worth that bit of extra but they are still considerably less expensive than the rest of the Deluxes.

But whenever we try to price out a visit we always end up planning the POFQ because it has everything we would want and is our favourite.

I love the themeing of the AKL, but would never stay there because it's so far away from the parks and only has the bus service. The same is really true for WL. We have considered staying there in the past (WL) and then didn't because it's not on the monorail line and only really close to MK.
DH only ever wants to stay in an Epcot resort-ever. :rotfl: I like the POLY just as much. The lack of a hot tub is not a big deal to me. Food courts are not a biggie to us, we would never really use it. We like the full service restaurants at the YC/BC and BWI/BWV.

When our youngest child was in a crib, we would have considered doing POFQ, just because we really like the themeing, but the double bed thing is HUGE for us. We could never spend a week comfortably in double beds. Plus, it's also not close to any parks.

CSR: If you are near the lobby and food court you are very far away from the main pool and vice versa so you have to pick. We found it to be too spread out.

WL and AKL: Both seem too "dark" for us; on the other hand, I was rethinking this for our summer trip, it may be just what's needed after a hot, sunny day in the parks but definately not what I need/want in December after coming from the NorthEast.

The Poly. My dd and I stayed a few years ago and the overcrowding at the pool, esp with non-Poly guests, really bothered me. My dd has been buggin me to go back, but I just can't get myself to do it. When I am there, I turn into a pool nazi, and I hate it! But I can't help it! I want to be able to sit back and relax. We are sticking with WL again this time, which has become my fav.

We will never will stay at CSR again. We eat most of our meals at the resort; it just fits our lifestyle. The Pepper Market is a poor excuse for a counter service meal. If I want table service, I'll go to a table service restaurant, not a food court. I find the waiters/waitresses annoying. (I like to fill up my own mug, thank you! I do not want to tip anyone at a counter service location. Could you please go away and leave us alone?)

Just got back from CBR and won't stay there again because of all the cigarette butts in the sand. My son wanted to play with his bucket and shovel but it looked like a big ashtray. We stayed there years ago and loved it but this time I was really turned off.
My kids liked Pop Century a lot except for the "monsters" we heard at night (loud toilets). It was a big issue for my 2YO.

All right, I'm probably going to be ostracized from the DIS for this, but WL. We visited for the first time last year to eat at WCC (and will return for the same reason this year), but we weren't wild about the lodge theming. Don't get me wrong--it's absolutely beautiful, but we live in the Pacific Northwest, have stayed at some of the old lodges (Yellowstone, Crater Lake), and have stayed/eaten at a lot of hotels/restaurants around here that are themed similarly, so it's a little too "familiar," if that makes sense. We go to WDW to get away from it all. Just like I could understand someone from New Orleans not wanting to stay at our fave, POFQ.

Now if we didn't live where we do, I think I would love staying there. That's the great thing about Disney resorts--they're all so different, there's something for everyone.

I really wish the Moderate Resorts would offer room service. It's a petty thing, I know, but a vacation just isn't a vacation w/o breakfast in bed and dinner in pj's. I gag at the prices for a Deluxe resort and can never justify spending that kind of money on a "room". Sure, you're paying for Disney ambiance..but I rather spend my money on a DTD Hotel, get room service and enjoy my ambiance in the parks!

In a pinch, we'd probably stay anywhere on property, but given the choice we avoid resorts that are too spread out. So that eliminates all values, all moderates, most DVC resorts, and most Deluxes!

Still, I'd really like to stay at POFQ, if it weren't for the layout. It just looks like such a great resort. :)

Definitely BW or BC. We love the beach/boardwalk theme and the fact that it is within walking distance to Epcot. But can't get past the price! I'd love to splurge just once and DH wants to stay at BW one time in his life...he's in love with it. AKL sounds great but it's so far away. We visited GF and it's nice but not our style. We are used to POR, the food court and the boat to DTD. But maybe a deluxe is in our near future....hmmm.

Haven't read all the post but for us it's Balconies. We always said we wanted to try all the resorts at least once. All in the name of science of course, but the first time we didn't have a balcony we really missed it.

Unfortunately, I think with the resort going all non-smoking the problem will probably get worse instead of better. Smokers are going to be driven outside and just like with the general population there are going to be a few inconsiderate ones who will fling butts anywhere.:sad2:

As for all the butts lying around maybe it's because of the new NS rules. Not sure. I don't want to do the value or mods because they are too far from the MK. The deluxes of course are really expensive on the monorail line. What to do?

I'm with thunderbird1, for the same reason. WL looks really nice but it and Fort Wilderness have absolutely no appeal to us (especially DS) because it looks just like we are at home. We like theming that looks like someplace else and enjoy AKL, YC/BC, CBR, and POR. I would love to stay at the Poly but the cost is forbidding; we had one super expensive trip a few years back when I got some nice AP rates for a 10-day trip, but that was once in a lifetime and now we go with value/mod most of the time.

I like the looks of the Port Orleans moderates, but I just can't deal with the motel style set-up all the moderates have. I like my private balconies and interior corridors.

As of right now, I won't stay at the Swan / Dolphin. The reason is because they are not Disney owned.

I have heard some good things about it, so maybe BUT it has to be after I have tried all the other Disney resorts.

We must think a like because I have said the same thing. I am sure they are very nice Resorts to stay at and I know they have some great deals on rates, however since they are not owned by WDW is why we would not stay there.

I've always wanted to stay at the poly, but two things keep me away now. 1. Too many DvC points. Is it really that much better than WL or elsewhere for the number of points it would take? 2. It doesn't see as nice as WL. My two cents. Of course I've never stayed there. Monorail vs boat to MK, no biggie to us.

My wife said AKL. Too far away from things.
