Are there resort fees for Interval traders into DVC Resorts?

I don’t think anyone here knows the details of the DVC contracts with either RCI or II.

The resort told us the $190 is an exchange fee and II keeps a of it (Disney states transportation is free, although I understand DVC timeshares now charge for parking in some circumstances). If the $190 is charged by II, this would align with your point above, but would then be charging a 2nd (or 3rd) exchange fee for the same exchange.

That’s interesting, because when we exchanged in via RCI in 2021 and 2022, using our non-DVC timeshare, the written confirmation from RCI said the $190 was to cover amenities, which implied to me that DVC kept it!

Then again, as I said above, none of us knows the details of the contracts, and if those contracts are between BVTC and RCI/II, as opposed to between the DVC resort condominium associations or the DVCMC and RCI/II, then the resorts wouldn’t see that revenue in their budgets.

If that is the case, isn't the case the same as the parking fee for cash stays (RIP). Am I wrong or we got a line in the budget for the fee paid by guests staying at DVC resorts on cash? We pay our part of the resort amenities, so if those are "rented" for exchanges, we should get our part.

Yes, I agree with you there.

I think there may have been 2 or 3 exchanges into BWV noticed by folks on TUG in the last year, so those fees wouldn’t make much impact in our budget.

SSR and OKW are the most commonly sighted inbound exchange opportunities, so we need one of those owners to check their budget to see if there’s a line item or a category that says anything about revenue from inbound exchange fees.

I don’t see anything in the Description of Revenue Components that is applicable to RCI/II exchanges. That makes me think that the external exchange program is handled by BVTC (makes sense, since it handles internal DVC exchanges) and that the $190 inbound exchange fee is revenue to BVTC.

In my two conversations with two different Disney Cast Members I heard two different stories.

One Cast Member said the $190 is an exchange fee charged by Interval International and Disney receives zero. In the Disney mobile application, it shows, "Charged by Interval"

Another One Cast Member said the $190 is an exchange fee charged by DVC, not the resort and DVC keeps all of it. They explained that there are two exchange fees, one you pay to Interval or RCI to trade into Disney and then $190 paid to DVC to convert the week from Interval into DVC points for the reservation.

DVC News claims that the $190 is a resort fee. Both Cast Members that I spoke with insisted that it was not a resort fee.

Does anyone know if this is still true that Hilton Head and Vero (& Hawaii?) do not have the $190 fee (per DVC News)

I will have to double check this but I don't think BVTC handles those exchanges. Only the DVC resort system of exchanging.

It's like the $95 fee DVC charges owners to swap their points to use for cruises, etc. That is not a fee that is considered income for owners. My understanding is that the exchange fees in/out of II are considered in the same. They go to DVC/Disney to offset whatever it costs to be part of that system.

They may refer to it as a "resort fee" to those coming in because they may have paid an "exchange fee" as well and it helps to keep them separate? As you said, I remember that the waiving of the $95 fee charged to owners was somehow added elsewhere....

But, even our resort agreement with BVTC for trades to other DVC resorts allows them to charge a fee to owners for the ability...which, appears that would be given back to them as income to offset the costs of running the program...

That DVC News article was from 2016, and it’s possible that the statement you quote is still correct. However, I don’t recall seeing any sightings on TUG of RCI or II offering their members the opportunity to book DHHIR or VB via exchange, so it’s possible that DVC doesn’t deposit DHHIR or VB to either of those companies.

Our DVC resort agreement with BVTC is only for exchanges between DVC resorts. The other exchanges in the system are handled differently and my guess is that it is DVCMC who handles the exchanges for all other collections.

It would also explain why they can charge additional fees for using options such as RCI/II, and the other exchange options like cruises, etc. because they are not part of the multi-site timeshare plan that exists between DVC resorts.

The rules for exchanges simply say there is a $95/transaction fee attached.

Here is the actual language from the "Know before you Go" section for booking an exchange via II from the DVC website. So, it appears this fee is what you pay to use the exchange program and thus, not something that we, as owners, would have any right to...and it doesn't matter what they do with the money....its up to them...basically, they provide II bookings as an additional program offered to members.
