i know it's ridiculous to ask but timing requires i use my
laptop to access the corp network via the internet while camping.

is this possible at fort wilderness? :teeth:

Right next to the Outpost, where you check in, is a small office with telephone ports for internet access. It is only supposed to be open during daylight hours, but I was in there after dark and no one said anything. The door is unlocked.

I'm pretty sure they have an area in the Outpost lobby with a couch and chairs and a low table with several phone-line hookups for computer use. Not really private, but comfortable.

I think for the price you pay per night, they should have wireless internet for the whole park.

Wireless is not an option because of the trees, they are working on a cable modem type access for the resort.

If work really needs you to access while on vacation, you should ask them about a Wireless Air Card.

My company provides those to managers on a full time basis and has a few for loan for us peons on occasion.

I have used it for the past two Ft. Wilderness trips with great success.

It's wonderful to be able to sit at my campsite in the evening while waiting for my laundry to dry and clean out the emails and just check up on stuff.

Hmm, wondering what look or cabin this was. I was told Ftw hadnt hooked up wireless internet access. Also did you have to pay a fee to use or was this an open system you logged onto.

Perhaps an RV with Sat hookup and an unlocked wireless port?

I'm sorry. This is kind of confusing. Both Verizon and T-Mobile provide "Air Card" service. This is basically a card that plugs into your computer with an antenna on it that is a cell-phone. It has nothing to do with any type of service at the location. It works anywhere a tower can be reached.

It is a bit faster than analog phone line service, or attaching a cell phone to your laptop.

Our company uses Verizon. It works really well for me at Ft. Wilderness. It's also great when flights are delayed to just sit there right in the terminal and log onto the airline website and get a new flight.

Thanks for claifying that. It now makes sense, but I suspect the air time charges will still mount up.

We used our cell phones with laptop for internet access on a few occasions, at two different sites. If you are used to DSL speed, it will make you crazy how slow it is! Also, signal was very spotty and, on more than one occasion, we literally had to hold the phone a certain way in order to maintain the signal.

It isn't too bad if you only need to do a little on the 'net, but gets very frustrating if you are thinking of doing much online.
