Are there pet adoption search sites other than Petfinder.com?

DH and I are looking for a kitten and I was just wondering if there were any other sites to check besides Petfinder.com. (Guess that was a little self-explanatory given the title... )

We know we'd prefer to adopt a kitten from a rescue group. We found a really cute Russian Blue on Petfinder, but somebody else asked about her first, so now we have to wait to find out whether the other people still want her or not. If they don't, she's all ours. If they do, then we (obviously) need to find another kitten from somewhere else.

I go to the website of each Humane Society (or rescue).

The place I adopted Charley from, doesnt even list on Pet Finders.

How do you find the rescues? Do you google them or is there a list somewhere?

The PetSmarts in my area have local rescue groups there with their cats & kittens every weekend, trying to adopt them out. Our two local PetSmarts have this going on from 12:00 noon - 4pm (sometimes 11am-3pm) every Saturday & Sunday.

They are usually there with about 8-10 cats/kittens each time.

That is where we got our kitten last August.

I found my kitty by seeing her pic online at the neighboring county's animal shelter, 40 miles away. I was just Googling pictures, trying to decide what type & color kitten to get. But as soon as I saw her picture, I knew I had to have her. Had I only looked locally, I never would have found her.

I called. They said she'd be available at the end of the next day after being spayed in the morning. I showed up on the dot at the time they said she'd be available.

Since it was a shelter rather than a pet rescue, I didn't have to jump through the kind of hoops Ellen Degeneres did, or sign the kind of forms she did. I paid the shelter fees and she was mine. :cool1:

Try craigslist.com if you have it in your area. Under the Community title there is a "pets" section. They allow people to list pets needing to be rehomed. I see kittens and cats listed in my area all the time.

There is www.siameserescue.org . When I adopted from them I had to first fill out a form, provide them with two references as well as information about the vet I use (all were contacted). Then they did a phone interview with me before they allowed me to adopt. Also, there has been follow-up.

I think they are a very good organization.

Do they do only Siamese Cats or do they rescue cats of other breeds as well?

I think their only non-Siamese would be if they had two (or more) cats come from one family.
