Are there people out there who . . .

A previous boss preferred the All Stars over any of the other WDW resorts because of the way he perceived the 'value' of a hotel room. Even though he could afford a more expensive room the size/amenities/location offered didn't justify paying the higher price to him. I would imagine that anyone who prefers a moderate over a deluxe would prefer it for that reason.

Even though I've stayed at DxL a couple of times and would be happy to stay there again I can't imagine anyone saying "Even if a Polynesian lagoon view room were the same price as a DxL room I would still stay at DxL..."

We have stayed at three of the deluxes and two moderates,
and I find the moderates are just as nice room wise, but have a
much better food court than the deluxe. The deluxe usually have
very small food areas and it makes it very crowded and hard to
get around. I dont understand this as you would think they would
make the deluxes as nice as possible?

we dont find the extra money is worth it at a deluxe even if you
do get the monorail, the bus system worked out just fine for us.

I honestly feel that the rooms in the Mansion section of the POR and the rooms at the CBR are just as nice as the rooms at the BC/YC. The CBR rooms are newer too.

I am one of those who really feels that the moderates at WDW are wonderful and are super Disney themed. I enjoy mixing my stays between the moderates and deluxes due to the location of the deluxes.

I honestly believe a lot of first timers/newbies pick the deluxes because they are afraid the moderates will be not be nice enough for them just by the fact they are called moderates.

jmho.........:p

Two of the reasons I like the rooms at the moderates are....

I find that noise is amplified in the interior halways of the deluxe resorts so when kids are running and yelling or doors are banging closed it seems louder in the deluxe room. The exterior corridors of the moderates allow for the noise to dissapate better into the open air.
Because the Deluxe resorts have interior corridors the entrance hall takes up some of the space so the actual room bedroom area seems about the same as a moderate. In the moderated you enter the door directly into the bed area. Of course that doesn't apply at the CR, Poly or GF. Those rooms are pretyy big.
Deluxe resorts are great/ The Moderates use to be the best value to me but when the pices are getting up there in the $170-$200 range, I think things are a hair out of hand.

I have stayed at the Poly 4 times, 3 times were each a weeks vacation, (One of those weeks being my honeymoon), the other was a one night stay.

Last year we stayed at CSR for a week and we took a sightseeing tour over to the Poly to see the new pool. Well, the Poly looked like some kind of third world country, there were people EVERYWHERE!!! The pool was so crowded people were walking around looking for lounge chairs then just leaving. It seemed like there was trash everywhere too. The GCH just didn't seem to have the ambience it had when we used to stay there. I looked into the little snack place, (Captain Cooks?), and it was an absolute nightmare, food all over the floors, trash everywhere. This was during slow season.

If I had my choice I'd stay at CSR over Poly any day. My reasons for that probably have nothing to do with any of the above though. We just really liked CSR, we liked the full service restaurant, the Pepper Market, we like hot tubs and they don't have one at the Poly. I liked the pool and pool bar better at CSR.
I'm also not too crazy about the interior hallways at the deluxes, I think they lead to MORE noise with kids running, ADULTS SHOUTING in a confined space, etc.

I can't say I like all moderates better than deluxes, I just like CSR better than the Poly.

Counter service food areas in the deluxes have to be small and not as nice. Then you will spend more $$$ in the sit-down restaurants.
We stayed at ASMo in Jan and loved it. We will be at CBR in 24 days. I will NOT stay in a cheap hotel and felt that the ASMo was very nice for the price! I agree with the first poster, in that you probably feel better when you are getting your money's worth. The two deluxes I would LOVE to stay at would be BC and AKL (Just got doen watching my Great Hotels tape)

We've stayed in both the Deluxe & Moderate resorts, and prefer the Moderates. The Moderates seem to be more fun to us, and that's what we're there for.
Sometimes the Deluxe resorts seem a tad, well, stuffy.
I also found the interior halls at the Poly noisy.
The absence of a quality sit-down restaurant in the moderates doesn't concern me. We usually grab enough food-court chow to sustain us until lunch & dinner in one of the parks.

I prefer value over moderates, but deluxe would have to be my favorite. Of course, I cant always afford a deluxe, so I think we will be staying at the value more often than not.

Susy,
I was wondering if you could tell me where you got that great hotels tape from. It sounds interesting!
