Hi I'm new to North face. I thought it was just one of those "trendy" items and never gave it a second thought. Now I hear that they are quite warm and a good coat? Is that true? I started looking at them and there are so many types! I was thinking of getting one for my DD10 because she hates bulky winter coats. I think she might like one of the "fuzzy" ones. Which ones are the warm ones? Do they ever have deals on them?

Last year for black friday the best north face denali deal we found was at dicks, buy one get a $50 gift card. I got one on black friday, then my parents used the gift card a few weeks later to buy my brother one.

Last year I got my son's at Macy's during their friends & family sale 25% off. During this sale there are usually no brand exclusions.i think it was late Nov. early Dec. last year. It's the only coats my DS's will wear.

I also used the Macy's friends and family deal. I also combined with a free shipping. My DS, who hates winter coats, got a fleece jacket.

Is that sale for all Macys cc holders, or just certain people? DD12 needs a winter jacket.

Our whole family has North Face jackets. They aren't always super warm (we're total slackers, but their jackets seem to be made with skiing, and other outdoors stuff in mind). The fuzzy ones, are called Oso or Osito. Our 15 yr old has one. It's warm enough for walking to the bus stop. You can score a deal on last years colors if you go on Nextag, and just type in your search. It'll find the best prices. Places like Backcountry.com Moosejaw.com, Klmountainshop.com, etc will pop up. They're all reputable stores.

6pm.com often has deals too. We have gotten them there and at Macy's. Stay with the kids sizes as long as you can. I seem to remember that an XL was about the same as an adult S but much cheaper.

Back country has last season colors on sale now for up to 50% off.

Bought my DD a Denali 2 years ago. Like others have said it's not very warm. Here in the south we don't need very warm jackets. When it has gotten colder out she layers it with a sweatshirt.

Sadly she has out grown it and needs another one. She's in adult sizes and they aren't as discounted. Plus she doesn't like the colors. I'll be one the look out for deals.

I got DD one at Cabelas online. It was "last years" color but she loved it.

I ordered my daughter one last night from Moosejaw. I got a ladies XS Oso for $ 86 shipped! I was very happy with that as it retails for $140. My girls love the comfort of them. They started wearing them when we lived in MS we live in PA now and they still like them because they aren't too bulky and can wear them during school if it's cold!

still wearing my North Face windbreaker/ski slicker 14 years later. I wear it at least 50+ days a year. DD16 wears a boys size large (black). If she doesn't lose it, her brother will get it next year for 8th grade.

Sierra trading post sometimes has TNF stuff, not a large selection though. You can get free shipping if you order through their app and there's usually a coupon code.
Nordstrom Rack has stuff sometimes too.

I have seen them marked down at Dicks during change of season....like when spring is rolling around.

I second Back Country Outlet (I think it's now called departmentofgoods.com). I order a ton of my outdoorsy clothes and gear from them. Or the REI outlet might be a good place to look. If you sign up for their email list, they send out loads of 20% off coupons.

I don't know what part of the country you're in, but those Denali jackets work for pretty much everything except the coldest part of our winter in Minnesota, then most people switch to down or ski jackets or something. Northface knows their business.

We are in NJ so that should work for us! Thanks! Maybe I should get one for myself too!

North Face was originally made with the outdoor enthusiast in mind but now they've also been picked up in the fashion world. They are decent jackets. I don't really love mine (its fleece and every time it gets washed the fleece balls up, however in recent years it seems that they have improved the fabric) but its warm enough for most fall days and its a good indoor jacket. Though I do like it well enough and I do use it for hiking in the fall. They are made as layering jackets, often a shell that is waterproof and windproof will be worn over it so it isn't as warm as a skiing jacket (sometimes if it is really cold I wear mine under my ski jacket) and I certainty wouldn't want to wear mine outside in the snow for a long period. I usually wear a long sleeves under it or have a shell to put over it if I'm outside. The more fashionable ones (like the fuzzy ones) are about as warm as a thick-ish sweatshirt.

Now if your just looking for a North Face like jacket and don't care so much about the brand then outdoor stores like REI and Dicks have a lot of choices that are similar cut, fabric, and color. Sometimes you can find different brands for cheaper (Colombia comes to mind, my mom loves their jackets and has found them in TJ Maxx) but sometimes they can be just as expensive or more so than NF (I really like Mountain Hardwear and its just as expensive). If you want North Face they sometimes go on sale but its usually in the spring. Look for store specific coupons or see if there is a North Face outlet near you.
