Are there any plans for Florida to link with EZ Pass this year?

It would be great if they would join with the rest of the East Coast. Has anyone heard anything?

October 2016 is the Federal deadline for nationwide toll road electronic transponder compatibility. If they have electronic tolls for anyone then they must accept toll transponders from everyone.

Some Sunpass subscribers will need to exchange their transponders to achieve this. Notably the Sunpass transponders that require periodic battery replacment are included in the exchange requirement.

Still, you should wait until you see updated information on the out of state toll road's web site (not just EZPass in general) before using your Sunpass in that state.

At some point, transponders that need to be exchanged will stop working on home state tolls also.

the 'old' sunpass versions were supposed to stop working as of 1 Jan

and the free replacement program has ended

I wonder if the holder of an old one will get zapped however .... it WILL stop beeping once the old equipment is removed from the toll plazas.

But as I've mentioned in other threads, in the current system if a car goes thru an electronic lane and no transponder responds the system "sees" the lic' plate and checks the database. If the tag is attached to a valid sunpass account, no foul, and you are charged normally. It is POSSIBLE, an older transponder will be handled like this .... but I dunno.

The website says the old ones no longer register toll payments ... Since the replacement gives a new transponder with a new number it is possible the old account is deleted .....

I just hope Ohio/IN joins party soon. I'm sick of digging for money. I have a newer Sunpass for use in FL and don't travel toll roads enough to buy one for Ohio/IN.
