Are there any perks to using a travel agent?

I have used 2 different TAs. The first one was nice, got back to me fairly quickly but wasn't a Disney "expert". I found discounts being talked about here before she knew about them. I had to tell her what the discount coming out would be and when. Her agency didn't get the info as quickly as people here did. Booked the next 3 stays myself-thanks mostly to all the information all the wonderful people here have to offer. I just used a TA that gets some of the nice discounts (I think they are convention rates). She's been very quick to respond-usually within 10 minutes of my emailing her. Got us discounted park tickets too. Have been really happy with what she has had to offer. So my suggestion is to check with various agencies, see what they can offer, then decide how much work you want to do to plan your vacation.

I believe there are some definite perks to using a travel agent if they know what they are doing. I have used travel agents who were not so great and some who are fantastic. I personally became a travel agent after seeing so many people not get the most out of their Disney trips. I helped a family plan a trip two weeks ago traveling at the beginning of May. They have a group of 8 in 3 separate rooms at POR. One of the rooms was not available for the special offer so I continued checking multiple times a day until one became available and I saved them $300! I also was able to secure Be Our Guest, 'Ohana (during firework viewing), and California Grill (during firework viewing) all for 8 people! It just takes someone who likes to obsessively check for openings :) I would love to help you or anyone else plan a trip! And it's totally FREE! I work for Academy Travel, An Authorized Disney Vacation Planner (www.mickeyvacations.com) and you can email me personally at magicalvacationsbyheather@gmail.com

I am currently using travel agency for my trip, but after this I won't do it again. I had problems (enough that I had to write a complaint- the first time in my life having to do that). I have found that they are not offering anything that I have not already seen for myself and can do for myself. So personally, since I am not finding any plus sides to using one so far for Disney, I will just keep my own control in the future.:)

We used a travel agent for the first time this year. They had an agency exclusive rate for certain resorts that beat any rate I was able to find on my own. There were no hidden fees or costs.
