Are there any other role-players out here on the DIS?

(semi inspired by finding out Stepharoonie's BF is at GenCon; a gaming convention.)

Am I the only one? Does anyone else on the CB or DIS play Dungeons and Dragons, or any other role playing game? Doesn't matter to me which one it is.

I've played D&D for a few years, Star Wars rpgs, a few other ones based on DC comics and wil be playing Deadlands (a western rpg) pretty soon. Even if you like those Plan a Murder Mystery party kit things...that counts too!

Anyone else?

Anyone not have any idea what I'm talking about?

Just wondering...

I knew a guy in CT who did Realms events. I went to one in NH with him. Interesting.

I played D & D about 10-15 years ago...
It is sooo time consuming...
We would usually play from anywhere to 6-12 hour spurts..
Would like to play again but all my buddies are married ...:(

My DS loves D&D! He is always reading about the warriors and dragons.

I have done one of those mystery dinners and it was a blast! It took place in a Victorian setting so we had fun dressing for the part too!

It is. I play with my BF at our place and the group consists of us and 3 single guys. That game we play every other Saturday night.

We play in another group as well, at someone else's house and it is us and one other couple, plus 3 married guys and 2 of the married guys often have a very hard time making it to play. We usually only play that game once a month or so.

Games usually run about 5 hours for both groups.

It is very time consuming. :) IMO, it's worth it though.

my hubbie was really into it when he was a teenager.......actually i think they were still playing in their early 20s......doesn't really have the time now, might get back into it now we're back in scotland

The murder mystery parties we love, when we move into our new home i think that'll be one of the first things we invite people to, we have a new game we've had for about a year and not had a chance to use yet

I really want to do one of these but we don't have the space for a lot of people in our apartment. We may be attending one at our friends house in the upcoming months. I hope so! :)

That's great that your DS shows interest in it. I think it is a great way to get kids reading, and thinking about what it's like to be in someone elses shoes. ::yes::

Let me take off my Cloak of Invisibilty and use my +5 Mouse to click on this to check for traps. I used to play in HS but everybody moved away.

My DH is into role-playing games, although mainly plays on-line now (that's what he's doing while I'm on these boards).

I did play once a few years ago with some friends in PA- not D&D but a pulp-comic game, very similar to an Indiana Jones theme. It was a lot of fun, and, yes, very time consuming. But I think it would be a great activity for teenagers- reading, role-playing, etc.

My husband plays Everquest...that is about as close as he gets to RPG. I use to play all the time but rarely do anymore. Just not enough time. You can literally sit down and feel like you've been playing for a few minutes and an hour has gone by.

I actually work part time as a GM for a game at play.net

I used to play... let's see, what was it... Gemstone III, I believe. Moderately entertaining in it's day.

I played one of those pulp comic type games once at a mini convention and it was so fun. It was set in a campy 1940's sci fi radio program. It was a blast. :)

Agree again about the good stuff kids learn from gaming.
Reading, vocabulary, math, critical thinking, empathy etc. All good stuff.

Oh I also was an admin for a number of years on a free online RPG set in Tolkien's Middle Earth. A lot more about the role play there than about combat and such. Very interesting place that I still hang out at, just not very active. One of the things I really like about it is that it's a lot more mentally demanding than your average RPG. Excellent for writing skills, vocabulary, thinking on your feet, etc.

I'm Bifur (one of the dwarves from The Hobbit) on there.

I like those, though I tend to stay away from online things/video games.

:)

Well, I've been there since 1995, so I must've found something redeeming about it ;) Seriously, it is fun for those who are into Tolkien and/or RPGs. And hey, it's free, which is always good. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who might be interested :)

I can't get into RPG's or other such games. Not because I don't want to, but because if I do, i'll get too involved in them and not do anything. Literally, food...water...if I had to manually breath, i'd probably forget to do that too.

Jigsaw Puzzles, Quake2 (I loved that game...especially multiplaying online), even video games...my girlfriend hates it when I get involved like that :)

I think I have a sickness.

I play online rpg's,mostly Marvel based along with Buffy(I play a Doyle(Angel) type character from a female POV)
