Are there any instances where you can put one extra person in a room?

We have a group of 10 going in July, we just need our last night for sleeping only, no parks or anything. I thought we could just get one room that would sleep 10, but I only saw one that sleeps 9. The 10th person is only a 4 year old who can sleep with her siblings in a queen bed so I am wondering if we could be allowed to book the nine person room. We would be doing the Magical Express back to the airport the next day.

No, you need occupancy for ten. So you probably need two rooms of five.

Your most economical bet would be to book 2 rooms that sleep 5 guests each at either POR or CBR. As others have said, you can only exceed occupancy by 1 guest if that guest is under 3 years old. Everyone must be listed on the reservation for occupancy reasons and to also access resort amenities including Magical Express.

Disney never makes exceptions to their room occupancy limits. Just leaving one person off the reservation doesn’t work, either, because that person won’t have a magic band encoded with the resort stay. So, no EMH, no Magical Express, etc.

This policy is for insurance reasons.

The maximum number of people must be able to evacuate a hotel in the least amount of time in case of a fire.

That said, years ago, my husband took his kids to Disney and four of them stayed in one of the All Stars, Movies I think. I was able to fly down midway through their vacation and slept as a fifth person in the room. I slept on the floor between the beds on pillows and it was pretty miserable.

The following night I stayed at the Orlando Hyatt Airport Hotel because I had a 6AM flight out and they had two more nights in Disney.

I wouldn't think of doing this again, it was just too miserable.

This past Summer we chose to stay at AKL because she was still 2, and we knew it would be our last chance to stay in one regular room there. But as a family of 5, we have sized ourselves out of AKL, and also all of the regular value rooms if we just want to take a less expensive trip. (We have annual passes) Pricing out a Spring trip, it's about the same price for us to stay at CBR, POR, or one of the values with 2 rooms. I would definitely look at all of your options. Plus, in your situation 10 people is a lot to have in one room! We've gone on family trips with my in-laws with 12 people and it's always best if people have their own space and don't feel cramped.

The only DVC 2BR that sleeps 10 is a VGF 2BR lockoff. They're difficult to book because they are comprised of a 1BR + a studio, and the studios book up quickly at VGF.

ETA: If it's only for one night and the stars align correctly, the OP might have a shot at one. But the cost would be astronomical...somewhere in the range of $1200 for one night.

You’re right, 3 is when everything stops being free. Not sure why I was thinking three and under.

Why not just stay one more night in the resort rooms you have booked for the rest of your trip? Or book rooms at the airport for that last night.

We are a family of 5 and CBR or POR is usually our cheapest bet on property so two of those rooms would likely be cheapest for 10. I get it, it's frustrating because my 3 kids can easily share a queen sized bed and many hotels allow an extra child to a room, but Disney does not unless there is a 5th person murphy or day bed in the room. It's impossible to leave one off the reservation if you want to use magical express or book your 60 day fast past advantage, etc. There are resorts I would love to try but probably never will (at least until I'm an empty nester) because they only have room occupancy for 4.

Why are you considering moving for the last night? Why not just stay in the original rooms? Sounds like a huge hassle to pack everything up and move for one night, to me.

One more thing...you can book up to 9 people in a SSR 2BR villa IF you are staying on DVC points. Otherwise they only sleep 8 for cash reservations thru CRO. There are only enough beds for 8 people (1 King, 2 queen + 1 queen sleeper sofa or 1 King, 1 queen, 1 queen sleeper sofa, 1 double sleeper sofa). Members who bring a 9th person have to supply their own bed (i.e. cot, air mattress, sleep on the floor, cram into a bed with 2 others).
