Thanks....after reading thru this it made me wonder - do we need to figure out how to get a digital DVC card for my DH so he can get a wristband for the pool? I know how to get mine but I don't know that he ever figured out how to find / get his....

Maybe. When we were at Aulani last May, we were able to get wrist bands for both of us the first day with just my digital card (cast member asked how many in the family), the next day we needed both cards, and the third day, the cast member replaced our bands with the new ones without even asking for a digital card or cards. As with all things Disney, consistently inconsistent. It seemed to me that the first day experience made the most sense, since had we any children along on the trip, they would not even have membership cards, digital or otherwise.

We did need to show our digital dvc y card to get discount in the gift store

When you tell them your room number and name at towel hut to get wristbands, they will look it up in computer and it will be marked as DVC and they will give you DVC pool bands, at least that is how it was for us. We got all discounts mostly by people seeing our DVC pool bands, was never asked for a card.
