Are there any advantages to transferring points?

We will have surplus points in 2009 but DD will have a shortfall and will have to borrow points. (Different resorts, different UYs.) We could have helped out in the past by transferring our surplus to her but not now, I gather. So, now that points are supposed to retain their original UY and resort, what are the advantages, if any?

If the points are for your DD, why not just book the room direct for her and link the reservations. You are only allow one transfer in/out per year.

If you transfer the points to your DD she could book at the 7 month window. Tomandrobin has a good suggestion, too.

You can still transfer, but you can only have one transfer in or out in a Use Year.

The classic advantage of a transfer is that it involves less risk. Once the transfer is completed, the recipient owns the points and has full control of them. Since you're dealing with your own daughter, there's no risk and that doesn't really apply.

You could transfer the points to her, and she could bank them if that was advantageous to her. Or, if the 11 month advantage is important for her, just book the ressie for her as suggested above.
