My kids are 13 and 11. If lines are long (spring break) would single rider lines help us or are my kids too young?

Especially for second or third rides!

My niece was 9 and she did the single rider line without any issues. Her mom went first, then her, then my son, then me. That way we had an adult off the ride first to meet the kids. Most of the time my sister and niece were in the same car, as we're me and my son, just not sitting next to each other

My son was also 9 (almost 10) when we visited in Nov. We had no problem in the single rider line. Actually one time, the cast member went ahead and let us both go together (we did not ask). Another time, we did end up in separate cars on different tracks when riding Gringott's but it was not a big deal. There is a great area to wait at the exit of the ride.

My son was also able to ride Dragon Challenge by himself (one ride was too much for me), but I went in the queue with him and waited right where he would get off of the ride.

Thanks for the feedback - I am not sure who has a harder time waiting in lines, the children or DH! :lmao: Being able to use the single rider lines will be wonderful!

Going on a ride alone at uni, whether it's the normal line or single line, has to do with their height. If I'm remembering correctly, it's 48" and above, along with meeting the certain ride's height requirement, that gets you on a ride alone.

Interesting if the 48" requirement is the rule for riding alone. I say that because at none of the rides that my son rode alone (either as single rider or while I waited) was his height measured. He is almost 5 ft tall, but I don't recall any way for the ride attendants to have measured him (or any other child) for that requirement prior to getting on the ride. We specifically asked the employees at the entrance of Gringott's if he was old enough to ride alone before we got in the single rider line, and the two people working at the main entrance did not even know what the single rider requirements are. They had to go find someone else to ask (who basically just said yes without measuring my son or even asking him his age).

Overall, Universal seems to be quite different from Disney in this regard. Of the rides we rode that had a height restriction, I only remember seeing a measuring stick at the very entrance, and the ride attendants didn't seem to be really strict about checking (maybe this was our experience because my son was obviously tall enough to ride?). I know at Disney, quite a few of the rides with height restrictions have measuring sticks/CMs at multiple points along the queue to check and re-check the height of shorter riders, and the CMs are very strict about checking. I did not observe this to be the case at Universal (although, we did not ride any of the "big" coasters like Hulk or Rocket).

If he's nearly a full foot above 48", yes, you didn't notice them measuring because he's so obviously the right height. :)

DS was 6.5 for our first WDW and Universal trip. At Uni he could ride things like Flight of the Hippogriff alone (I noticed the SR info after our 14th time, in a row, on that ride), but he could ride nothing at WDW alone. I much prefer the Uni way. :)

My 13 year old is 5'8" and the 11 year old is 5'3", so height shouldn't be an issue! But that is strange that it may be based on height vs age.

We have seen the opposite on our visits to Universal. They are very strict with height and heard people complain often that their kids didn't make the height requirement.

Not really. You can have a 10 or even a 12 year old that is very small.........it wouldn't be safe for them if they are too small for the safety restraints.
